It was great to see so many archers enjoying the 3D shoot at the nationals. Untill a few months ago I shot 3D as my main form of shooting at Massey archery club in Auckland. I have heard that there was some interest from the target scene to do more 3D archery, either as practice for that round at the nationals, or simply because it is such good fun. Massey holds many 3D rounds throughout the year, but there is no reason for target recurve to shoot as there is no true division for sighted recurve shooters. This is simply because there is nobody around shooting that gear in 3D ( in Auckland anyway, sorry if it is different else where). Long story long, if there is significant interest out there for target recurvers wanting to have a crack at a bit of 3D on the side then let me know. We may be able to make a target recurve division at some of the Massey shots so we don't have to shoot against compounders. We just need the numbers to make it worth the effort.
It's just an idea so let me know if you want a go.

Would be interested at some point, as long as it doesn't clash with a tournament I'm organising :p
We don't need a division - I doubt many of us are in it for the medals!

medals are not really the problem, most 3D courses are in far denser bush than the shoot at the nationals, arrow clearance for the slower bows is a big problem, if there is great enough interest a 'recurve friendly' course could be made so our arrows could at least reach the target! On some courses I've shot even compounds struggled to sneak under the brush.

You just need to wind your bow up a bit more ;-)

I supposed so, actually I thought it was great, but it needs to be more recurve friendly as some of us can't wind it up too much, age, and such.

Well i shot last weekend at the Massey Safari, or at least tried hard to shoot it... the course, or what i saw of it, was fantastic, and the weather terrible, but i had awesome fun.
After only 20 targets, i had lost/broken the 6 carbon impact arrows i bought specially for the shoot, forcing me to end... but i had awesome fun!!!
Thanks for madarcher, Shaun, Justin, Lou and everyone at Massey Archery Club for the welcome and organizing such a great event! I'll be back for some more!!:thumb:

Hey Burt
great to see you and a few other FITA shooters at the Safari, sorry you did not get to shoot the 105 yard target..... you might have won the $200 cash!!! Come on over to the club more often to get some more animal target practice.

Hi,
I had a great time at Massy. As a target archer now it has been many years since I have shot out there but as always it is always great fun, despite the weather. If I could just learn to judge distances maybe I wouldn't go through so many arrows :p Will do my best to attend next year too, although the safari usually confilicts with a target tournament.
