A lot of discussion about doing an elite archery group, but how many archers in NZ actually have a coach.
Almost all of archery skill I have is due to Me just practising as much as time allows, proberly badly, but just trying to be as constant as I can and read the odd archery book to guide as well.
Another point is where are the coaches, I didn't see a list of ANZ coaches other than the ones listed email on the ANZ website, unless I'm mistaken.

I have a coach, not ANZ, no coaching courses or anything. I think that it is better to have somebody who can inspire you and motivate you, not tell you that they know more about your own bone structure and how it fits together than you do. He has taught me basically how to shot a recurve from almost no preivous experience in 6 months (or started teaching me, I don't think I will ever stop learning) , simply by incouraging the form I already had and suggesting things that work for him and how to use them in my shooting if I choose. I am a firm believer that one size does not fit all. I think a coach is one of the best things you can have in your archery, not to tell you what to do, but to keep your head in check and make sure you are on the rails.

I gonna nuance that.
Sure it can be inspiring and motivating. But dood form is the corner stone of performance too.
As an athlete, i dont need to know the name of every bone, muscle, etc... i just need someone who can actually made me do those the right things via simple directive / orders, sometime at first sight appearing not related to the problem / question i came up with.... someone who fix the source of problems if they exist, not the symptoms... that's when you need a coach. I don't need to hear "use your back", "stop dropping your bow arm" cos that's doesn't help me... i want orders to stop or start doing those things.

That's a very generous offer Jim, it's just a pity that you're so far away so you can't share your expertise directly. *sigh*... I guess we'll have to muddle along without you ;-)

ive got a coach, not that i see him very often sadly, but a form coach is important to developing consistency and an easily duplicated shot and once you have that as the mad archer said someone who knows your shot and the problems that get is needed to keep you in check and keep things consistent, seems to me buy archery New Zealand standard the archers that have coaches and the ones that shoot massive amounts of arrows are around the same score level at present any way.

What about those of us that don't have a coach or shoot massive amounts of arrows? ;-)

Where is the best place to scope for a coach?
And are you expected to pay them?
