I was talking to his brother today (Liam), he just went under surgery this morning, and all went well. He should make a full recovery, but very scary stuff. Get well soon Eamon, hope you have a speedy recovery and can get back on the course soon.

This is Eamon Gaffney isn't it?

So what happened?

Did he cop a Broadhead?...... where did it get him?.....

I imagine if you got hit by a Broadhead anywhere in the Torso, you would bleed to death pretty darn quick.

So i've been told:

it sounds like it was an over shot that missed its target and flew for a fair distance before hitting him.....

and apparently hitting the top of his chest... :S

In the chest?

He's lucky to be alive.

If you want to send him any get well messages etc, Kevin and Carol from Advanced Archery (http://archery.co.nz/) are going to see him sometime and say they're happy to pass messages along.

If anyone from AAC is around during the weekend, we will have a card for Eamonn at the club for members to sign.

hell yeah! very impressive scar, wait 'til themadarcher post the pics up... while we were there, the hospital phoned to ask him if he'll ok with them doing a sort of case study, as they've never seen that before really...

lol yeah, such drama for dodging a broadhead, people should just HTFU sometime ;) :p

seriously, i'll transmit the messages if i can. He'll back shooting and in the bush hunting as soon as he can really!

Bugger, I had some pictures of Eamon I took when I visited him today, but they seem to be too large to post :( He is recovering well, amazingly well considering where the arrow struck him, we are extremly lucky to have him still with us. He may have to back off the 66# X-force for a while, he suggested a 20# Genisis, but he hopes he will be recovered in 2 - 3 weeks. As long as there is no hidden damage he could even be shooting soon after that.
Great to see you are doing so well Eamon, hope your recovery goes smoothly and there are no hidden nastys.
Cheers - Stephen

so it took him 7 days to recover from an arrow to the neck.....tough stuff

GreatPointedArcher
17-03-2008, 06:55 PM
that looks like the stick on scabs they use in drama classes wheres the big scar where the arrow stuck in his chest after it went through his shoulder as reported maybe the story was slightly exaggerated like all good stories at least the guy is recovering well so all good

Whatever make of broadhead it was, it did a horrible job! :D

On a more serious note, congrats to the medical staff that helped him survive this. Hope you make a full 70# recovery in no time flat!

Eamon might be able to answer the million dollar question now....

Hunters have always said that an animal that got shot with a razor sharp broadhead, would not suffer or feel too much pain.

Soooo what does Eamon think about that? :D

BTW good to see your still breathing bloke..... where would the Archery world be if Aussies didn't have Kiwi's to beat :thumb:

Hey all. Eamonn here.
As some have posted, I am recovering well, and am up & about at home. Will be off work & archery for at least a few weeks though.

Hunters have always said that an animal that got shot with a razor sharp broadhead, would not suffer or feel too much pain.

Soooo what does Eamon think about that?

Well, the answer in this case would be, true!!!
The injury did not cause major discomfort. Keep in mind that this was mainly a flesh wound with very little bone damage. I imagine splintered bones & the like would probably not be very nice, but I have never broken anything, so I can't say.
The chest drain for the punctured lung (a bone chip/splinter, not the broadhead) was the most painful part of the whole thing.

Thank you to everyone for your words of support, & to those of you who have visited me in hospital or at home.

Hey Eamon, you should put up a picture of the scar on your back from where they pulled the arrow out from the other side of your body, that might let the force of the impact hit home on Mr " stick on scabs" :D

The chest drain for the punctured lung (a bone chip/splinter, not the broadhead) was the most painful part of the whole thing.

So are you a fan of respiratory physiotherapists now? :silly: Can we see the xrays?

Glad to hear you're recovering so quickly. :D

more you look at the pic the more amazing it is that Eamonn was not killed a few inches either way and the arrow might have missed or been fatal wonder how many other bowhunting near miss situations happen each year when people go bowhunting all sounds to dangerous shooting arrows at moving things in the bush target much safer best wishes Eamonn and be careful next time you go hunting

Good to see you're ok Eammon, you should tell who ever shot you that his nock point is too high and the tear is a little to the right, he should try a weaker arrow. :-)...
