View Full Version : Arrow diameter question

I am adding Vectors and Navigators to Accurate Sights (finally, you might say). Can anyone confirm the shaft diameters? I need that for the drag calculations. From my reading of the Easton catalogue they seem to be the same size as ACE's (use the same points) - is that correct?
The shaft weight for the Navigators seems to be greater than for an ACE, which would mean (if the diameters are the same) that they would drift less. Hence, an interesting arrow.
Yes Jim, the Easton Navigator is a more than just interesting arrow.
Only yesterday I was looking at them with Archery Academy. They take ACE components, so considering G nocks, cost wise calculate to approx the same price as Triples.
Diameter is the same as ACE's but as you say, a heavier shaft.
These will certainly give Triples(which I use) a real worry !
Cartel are not listening to the consumer, & are slow to respond to nock problems, & they have just altered there points without warning
On the nocks for triples, Beiter are now making an insert nock for them (well, for the 500s at least, not sure about other spines)
I have some on order

I have changed AS to have "Cartel Triples" instead of "Doosung Olympians". But I have made it backward compatible for those who have saved data files. I will add the Bieter insert nock: any idea of its weight?
No idea, when I get them I will let you know. I will also find out if they are being made for the whole triple range.

isnt the navigator quite larger in diameter than the cartels.
which is better a thiner diameter for less resistance or more weight per inch

The information that companies provide on shafts is highly variable. Could some clever person come up with a data base that detailed arrow weight (per inch?) diameter as well as material, spine and straightness.
Even if this was done for only a couple of arrow sizes this would be a big help when searching for new arrows.
Stevej, the diameter difference is not noticable .
With the Navigators being the same diam as ACE's, can you say ACE's are too wide? :o
I am using Easton Vector Pins/East on pin nocks @ approx $4 each on Triples .
Believe me, I would rather be using G nocks( which fit Navigators) with the breakages I am having :(
As I said if Cartel are serious they should have their own suitable nock. Not that rubbish :-?

the beiter nocks work quite well.
personally i havnt had a problem with the cartel nocks.
no i am not saying aces are too thick if you refer to my question the question is what is more benefiacial a thin shaft or a heavy shaft

Hi Jim
The Beiter Nocks for Cartel triples 500 series weigh 6.8grains.
David, are they insert nocks like a g-nock or the overock?

Hi Mike
These nocks are an insert nock (similar to G nocks) with beiter's distinct shape.

Thanks, thats good information on the Navigators. I can put them in now. What about the Vectors?

Could you include the pin nocks for the Triples also Jim? :D

Aarleks, yes, but which ones?

Ahh... Good point.
Vector pins will probably become standard. Perhaps those? I will look up their weight.

According to Easton:
Vector pins 1050-700 are 7gr
640-480 are 8gr
Pin nocks 2gr

Thankyou for that.
I will also update the list of bows - I will put in the latest from the Hoyt and PSE catalogues. What others? Mathews- which ones Noel? Merlin - Randall? Any other that you want in it?

any luck with the bows from a data file?
James Park

Yes, I will try the bows from a data file (easy to do that one - it will be a straight text file that will be easy for users to modify). The arrows are more complex, so for the time being they are in the code (the complexity is the vast number of different allowable combinations).
For the bows, the data looks like:
PSE Primos
Hoyt Ultratec
etc
hence, you could easily add something like:
Marcus' blue Hoyt Protec

Could I please request a "special" 2Dogs pop-up submenu in the bow section.
it should say
"Bow to be Shot this Week"
and have multiple choice answers :)

Speaking of popups you could also have a left one or a right one choice as well Paul. :D

you're a funny bugger Paul, You don't need a pop up menu, you need some seroius help

I have now added the capability for users to add a "user-defined" list of bows in a separate data file. 2Dogs will even be able to add "Bow to be shot this week".
Working on adding the Navigators and Vectors now.
This will then be Version 5.5.7

Jim
have you been able to work out how to make an update installer so the version update can be downloaded but not usable unless you have an original copy?
I know this is difficult but thought I'ld ask

Marcus,
Yes, I have looked at that, and did create some code at one time, but it is very messy. In the end I decided that it was too hard and prone to unexpected situations (dealling with all the potential error conditions is not trivial). Hence, I simply rely on users being honest, and in not pricing it too high - and in most cases I have found that to be the case (I am aware of a few pirated copies, but not a vast number - and where I know they are pirated they get no support).

I have now added Navigators and Vectors. Just need to test it and we are done.
Are there a couple of people who would like to test it (you would have to have a current version)?

Tony,
it is in the email. Thanks.
After you have run it you should have a new file in the c:\Settings directory called "BowList". You can edit that file to add other bows if you wish.
