I think he meant the $ against the US$

But petrol prices are effecting flying and shipping stuff into and around AUS.

Australia Post hasnt changed its price but TNT has.

Australia Post had an across the board price rise about 3 months ago.

Registered post went from $2.50 to $2.75

The low US dollar makes for good buying here in OZ but our inflation is running at 4.2%.

Commercial rental properties in Sydney and most capitals are have spiked in price in the last 2 to 3 years... costing $400.00 to $700.00 psm in the areas you want to be, if you're a retailer.

I think there's a few factors that outweigh the good exchange rate at he moment, when it comes to selling archery gear at a serious retail level.

yep, my neighbour thinks I'm an idiot for selling archery gear when he heard my margins. There is a reason people don't leave other industries to start up either archery or computer stores.

When I used to photograph jewellery for a few big retailers... I often saw their buy/sell sheets. :o

They had 50% off 'sales' and still made 300%.

They claimed it was necessary to cover advertising costs, high exposure retail rents and staff costs... maybe they were right.

Archery gear certainly hasn't got this level of mark-up... in fact, it's a little depressing.

I guess thats why we don't see any archery stores in your local shopping centre and most are one-man operations.

yeah those margins are reasonable when you consider shop rents (a main road shop is about $50,000 a year), staff (4 staff is about $200,000 plus extras), insurance (horrific what jewelry insurance would be), security and after all that the owner hopefully makes a profit.

Bear in mind that shops in malls also pay a % of takings in some way shape or form to the centre jsut for being in a high traffic area to cover advertising etc as a group.

I can categorically state that our Accountant informed us that the Archey business has the lowest markup of any he has encountered and he gets to see a few!

Well might be a time to think about buying Archery Gear, Aussie $ has dropped to .885 Telegraphic Transfer......I think you will see a change in pricing real soon, and not for the best unfortunately. With Interest rates looking like they are going down, our A$ is getting weaker
