If I can get my Navs set and this crazy Cavalier elite thingymabob set up I'll be all sweet for it. Where's the team spirit Puddin? Wouldn't you rather be shooting in the freezing wind and rain!? Come on!

Oi!
I would have been interested in going, but I was going to arrive back in the country early Saturday morning. Ended up arriving Sunday morning instead, so I don't think there was much chance of my getting down to Taranaki before the end of the shoot ;-)

That does make quite the difference, or at least the total increases over the past year or so. Driving down to the 'Naki and back would cost me in the vicinity of $150-200 these days. That's really quite a lot of money...

that's very true.... when i was attending my first tournaments in NZ, petrol was "just part of the process" really, when compared to accommodation.... it gonna soon become the first thing you have to budget for....
The problem is lots of people are globally still repulsed by the idea of using diesel in NZ (tho less and less economic than only a years ago.. it's now almost the same price in France, i didn't look here yet), and don't feel manly enough driving less than a super-charged V6.... the cars pool in NZ/Aus is going to change very rapidly over the next 2-3 years: smaller models, more and more diesel. It has already started anyway. To be noted as well, the emergence of biodiesel, which can be sometime used straight away on older engine with no mechanical modification.
when i think about it, it would be for me nowadays impossible to reenact my 2004-2005 Xmas road trip through the North island, because of the fuel prices... :(
wow, nice off topic!

I'd rather travel to 3 archery tournaments a year and enjoy the trip than 4 or 5 stuck in some little diesel ****box that needs a run-up to get up a hill.
One major difference between here and Europe is that they have decent roads; a small diesel isn't so bad on a motorway as on our roads.

Well I think the engagement party of one of the Auckland archers might have had something to do with it, then! ;)
