We are sending three compound men to World Cup 4 in France.
Pat Coghlan, Robert Timms and Zoran Singerov will depart Thursday next week. Quite a strong team and we wish them well.

As I noted above, this is a strong team:
Pat is the current Australian target and field champion. He also won the target in 2005 and 2007, and has been over 1400 twice in major competition this year.

Rob was second in the Nationals target for the past two years and was over 1390 twice in major competition this year.

Zoran has won the Nationals target twice (2003 and 2004). He was leading the target in 2005 but was ill on the second day and could not shoot. He has exceeded 1390 several times in competition.

Both Pat and Rob already have points from strong placings in this year's World Cup events.

Thanks guys, I didnt like missing number 3, but with little Scout's Autism sometimes other things have to come first.

This should be great :-)

Yes, I am happy with this team, Rob ovbiously is shooting well ranked 3 for the WC's and Zoran winning last years Matchplay and 3 out of the last 5 National Matchplay events I think we might have a good/great chance.

Damsbo opened his match trailing by one point as the scores were 27-26. A perfect second end for the Australian made him increase his advantage at 57-55. He managed to keep it until the end, to finally go for Gold against Tataryn on Saturday, with a final score of 116-114. Also, Coghlan is now sure to be in the World Cup Final in Lausanne!

Yeah,

I just check the FITA website.

If I finish 1st here then overall I qualify 2nd if P Hofer finishes 4th here
If I finish 2nd here then over I qualify 4th no matter what this is the lowest I can rank
If I finish 1st and P Hofer wins then I finish 3rd overall for the year.

Really exciting. It is day off today due to the Olympic Qualifier for the last 5 places, so we are just going out for teams training for a couple of hours and then maybe watch the shoot off.

It's just that we seem to rank really well but then go out far too easily in the early round(s). In other words we need to work on being more consistent. If you look at the Men's Compound Team they always go much further, i.e., there is a consistent performance pattern.

Late night for Pat (go Pat:thumb:), early for us. Where do we get the best "live" scores?
Peter

I watch the arrrow by arrow from the world cup results at www.archery.org. The info refreshes about every 40 secs or so. How 'current' it is I can't say but I'm not aware of anything better unless you have somebody there with a mobile! By the way, check that the arrow scores add up to the totals they post!

Go Pat

Why would you schedule a match for 10.00pm?
I wonder how much practice they are allowed, since FITA rules stipulate that
if shooting under lights (which is OK) athletes must be able to "practise under
such conditions" (3.20.4) Doesn't say for how long!!

Even in midsummer I would have thought it would be dark by then.
Do they have floodlighting??

The publicity blurb said:

Boe World Cup – Finals will be played by night!
Lausanne – 20 June 2008
For the first time in history, the individual final matches of the Archery World Cup Stage 4 in Boe will be played at night. The organizers hope to attract a large crowd in the rugby stadium of Boe and propose an exciting night with a garden party, tight archery matches and fireworks to close the show. Stay tuned on www.archeryworldcup.org for the live coverage of the events on 23-29 June.

http://www.archery.org/UserFiles/Document/World%20Cup/2008_Events/4_Boe/08_Boe_prog.pdf is the detailed program.

Gold Medal: France - Australia

France starts the Gold Medal match on target 1, and scores X10-X10-X10! Australia does not start as good as their opponents with 9-8-10. The local archers didn't do as well with 9-8-10 (57). Australia recovers a bit with 10-9-X10 (56). France takes 1 pt lead in the first end. Australia opens second end with 9-9-10, and France goes on with 10-8-9. Australia shoots X10-7-9 to let France increase their lead with 10 for Deloche, X10 for Genet and X10 for Brasseur, World Ranking 6 (114-110 for France). Australia does its best with 9-9-10 (138), but France is too strong with X10-X10-9 (143). Australians could recover a bit with 10-9-10 (167), but it is not enough for France's 9-9-10 (171). Last end in this match, as the Australians score 10-8-X10 for Coghlan (qualified for 2008 World Cup Final), and the French score 9-9-10 to lead by 4 pts (199-195). Last shots for Aussies: 10-X10-9. Last shots for the French: X10-9-9 to win Gold Medal at home, as their Female teammates! Final score: 227-224.

1 individual bronze (Pat)
2 team silvers (Pat+Rob+Brendan and Pat+Rob+Zoran)
4 archers with WC points (Pat, Rob, Brendan and Erika)

AA will need to pull there finger on this one.

However!.... all is not lost. A Similar thing happened to my trophy coming back from NZ, and thanks to AA, FITA replaced it and posted it direct to me.

That might be your best option, as I would guess the French would have dumped his by now.

AA will need to pull their finger on this one.

Not AA's problem. How the archers get on regarding their luggage is the archer's problem. We make this very clear to the archers prior to them travelling.
For example, it is made very clear indeed that archers should stick within the permitted weight limits (or it is the archers who will personally be paying the excess baggage costs). Similarly it is the archer's responsibility to only carry things that are permitted.
(However, I am sure that AA will try to assist if needed).

Ok I retract that.

But I think the only way Pat will get a trophy is if AA, contact FITA and ask them to replace it. Like they did for me.

I'm 99.9% sure the French Airport would have disposed of it by now.

Rubbish ;) It's all in the packing.

Normally one might agree with you, but last time Pat and I went overseas we used that philosophy and packed an expensive venetian glass horse into the baggage. It got smashed.

I threatened Pat with death if he put his trophy into the baggage.

Still, one might think that a trophy for a World Event would perhaps get some leeway. We had hoped that one of the flight attendants could put it in a safe place.

I just keep thinking, if it was the Ashes would it get confiscated? How does the AFL get their trophy home: they always seem to walk off the plane with it! and for goodness sake is the world running that scared that they think a terrorist would spend years training in a sport to win a trophy to use as a weapon to highjack a plane. The world's gone mad!!

By the way, I think after Pat chucked his wobbly at the airport people, Zoran and Dionne did some less emotionally charged negotiation - so I'm still hoping it'll turn up. Pat couldn't tell me the outcome. Won't know till tomorrow when he gets off the plane!

That's the sort of competition that I like to see. Down to the line. Arrow for arrow. Sudden death and the forging of hard nerve under competition pressure.

Bring on the Commonwealth Games and we'll show Australia that there is depth in another sport that the general population doesn't know exists.
