This should be an interesting topic ! :) What makes a good target riser ? What do people look for in a riser ? Whats the best shape ? What is it people like/dislike about their risers ? And does it really come down to how cool it looks ;) threw that one in for the TEC shooters :)

I don't think the shape of the riser matters (I would be happy to shoot any shape, but with my sponsorship arrangements it needs to have PSE written on the side).
I think what really matters is the brace height, together with the mass weight.
For example, I would be quite happy to shoot a heavily reflexed riser, so long as it had a decent brace height of around 7 and a half to eight inches, and so long as the mass weight was low.
I would not be happy to shoot a bow with a brace height of 6 inches, no matter what shape the riser was.

Agree with Jim on that one (cept fo rthe PSE thing :) )
Reflex and deflex isn't too much of an issue these days, Roger Cripps from Hobart for example shot a Striker 2 for years shooting 1350+, moved to an Aspen and ber got decent scores from it, went to an UltraTec and back he went.
The best shooting bows I've ever had were all 'speed' bows in their time, the Fire Flight Elite, Super Slam and now UltraTec. All shot 10's and all are not classic target bows.
A well tuned bow will shoot 10's not matter what shape.

How is that Xcellerator going Jim?

Regarding the Xcellerator: I am really quite enjoying it. I never could have imagined shooting such a short bow prior to trying it (32 and a half inches). It is about the same speed as the Quantum, but a little heavier in the hand. It is a very smooth shooting bow (high brace height and the limbs are angled back a reasonable amount). It was nice and easy to tune.
I have shot it for field, target and indoor, and it has seemed fine for all of those.
I am now having to decide which bow to use for the State and National indoors. I plan to try the Quantum tonight at Moorabbin.

Marcus,
I did ok with the Quantum tonight: 300 using Safari's. Now I don't know which bow to use at the indoor (298 with the Xcellerator a couple of weeks ago, same arrows).

Michael tested the penetrating power of a Safari into the plaster wallboard. The Safari won. Missed the ceiling by about 2cm. I suspect that if he had pulled it back further than about a quarter of the way the radio club next door would have had a new antenna.

Shhhhhh Jim!!! No one was supposed to know about my little accident. The arrow survived quite nicely, beautiful circular hole in the plaster though!
