What's the pole do that sticks out of the bow?

Hi Craig,

The pole that sticks out in front of the bow is called a stabilizer.

It serves a number of functions.

Firstly, it helps balance the bow, so that the bow will react the way that we want it to when we shoot (often, biased slightly weight forward, so that on completion of the shot, the bow will gently rock forward rather than tipping back), it can also provide enough weight in front of the bow to make it steadier to aim.

Secondly, the stabilizer absorbs some of the recoil and excess vibration, and provides some dampening when we shoot the shot, providing a smoother shot.

Thirdly, they make an excellent bow stand, and also a good leaning post if you shoot with a long rod. ha ha...:D
