View Full Version : DVA's 290+ Indoor shooters

Marcus

It's quite possible DVA has the most archers who have shot 290+ indoor in the last 2 years. Here is the list

Luke Eberbach: 300
Ray Morgan: 299
Alan Williamson: 299
Marcus Anear: 298
David Anear: 298
Colin Carter: 298
Alan Carter: 298
Jarrad Alston: 298
Sten Nigol: 298
Cameron Brewer: 297
Faye Waterman: 297
Erika Anear: 296
Michael Pless: 295
Mal Marshall: 294
Marilyn Taylor: 293
Greg Lander: 292
Hayley Eberbach: 291
Karina Marshall: 291

That's 18 shooters, plus at least 3 more on the cusp of shooting it soon.
Well done guys, keep up the good work.

Yes, 297 is a nice score. Unfortunately, Mike's talking absolute bollocks

I think it should be 300+. :D

Even I've shot 453, and thats barebow.

Oh, you're talking about the Aussie round, only 30 arrows.

Eberbachl
21-10-2003, 09:58 PM
Yep, we're talking about the Aust1 indoor round Robbo.

The X ring on the IFAA indoor round is about the size of the ten on the FITA indoor face, the X ring on the FITA indoor face is bloody small :D.

Most of the people in the lists above shoot 300 regularly on the IFAA indoor round. :bday:

Marcus
21-10-2003, 10:19 PM
Best on inner 10 round robbo is 576, and that was done despite being a skilless sighted shooter. ;)

Eberbachl
21-10-2003, 10:20 PM
Ahh... OK - I see :D

Not sure what my PB for the indoor FITA 60 arrow inner ten round is. Shot 574 (or was it 572?) on Sunday for it - so I guess 'cause I can't remember my PB that's my new PB :D.

robbo
21-10-2003, 10:51 PM
I see there is a barebow Tournament record on the AA site for a FITA 1 536.

Marcus
21-10-2003, 10:59 PM
I think that's outter 10 as well. I think only sighted compound shoot inner 10.

robbo
21-10-2003, 11:45 PM
My kids and myself had to shoot inner 10 at the state titles in Katoomba.

When I questioned one of the judges, and told him I was told that it was outer 10, he quickly told me that I and whoever told me that, was wrong. :-?

Outer 10, I might have cracked 500.

Take an AA rule book to the next shoot with you I think robbo, and highlight the BBC rounds - Barebow Compound definitely shoot outer 10. Marcus is right - ONLY compound shoot Inner 10 according to AA rules and for AA records.

Don't let them (organisers or judges) tell you it is a FITA event and therefore you have to be treated as a sighted compound - if it worked that way longbows or crossbows couldn't shoot the event as FITA doesn't recognise them for Indoor at all! :D

However, if you want to claim FITA Target Awards (which start at 500 for Indoor) you must follow FITA Rules which means you are a Compound (as FITA does not recognise BBC) and therefore would shoot the Inner 10! :-?

It's unfair on you and your kids as AA records could have perhaps been set - by shooting the wrong field pegs at the State Field your U14 son shot an U16 record! :D Just think what he may have done to the U14 record had he shot white pegs! :-? :D

robbo
22-10-2003, 08:08 AM
I guess I will just have to get hold of a rule book and read it.

I have 2 kids in the U14s, one will get another chance next year, from the right distance hopefully.

Daniel, who shot the record will turn 14 in December, so I think he goes up to the U16s as soon as he turns 14. Is that right?

mike
22-10-2003, 09:18 AM
I have never shot an official FITA Indoor, but have worked out a score based on Xs for an Aus1. My best for 30 Arrows would be 289 and for 60 I think is about 575, so I've got a LONG WAY TO GO in the FITA side of things!!

Eberbachl
22-10-2003, 09:22 AM
Yep, that FITA indoor round sure is tough isn't it Mike!

I think the AUST indoor round is a bit of a confidence booster - but you soon plummet back to earth when you start scoring inner 10

My best double Aust indoor round = 598

My best FITA indoor = 574

...I suck :D

mike
22-10-2003, 09:32 AM
Yep, my best double Aus1 was at the State Indoor this year and that was only a 591 (297 + 294) but because of the old 23s it came out as I think a 575 FITA. Just goes to show that with fat aluminium arrows most of your 10s turn out to be Xs anyway.

I find it hard to maintain my concentration in indoor because I get bored, particularly after more than 30 arrows (look at the above score 297 followed by a bummer 294 that incidentally put me from 1st place to 4th where I stayed for the rest of the weekend  )

Eberbachl
22-10-2003, 09:59 AM
Yeah, I enjoy drilling spots indoor - but I reckon it's one of the toughest rounds there is.

The expectation of accuracy is huge, and it's easy to be too hard on yourself when you don't get a ten. Alot like Zoe said in another thread.

....but still - we keep doing it to ourselves :D

James Park
22-10-2003, 10:36 AM
I have a suspicion it would be better if we changed the Archery Victoria State Championship round to FITA rather than AA. That is: inner 10 for compounders.

Marcus
22-10-2003, 10:40 AM
I believe that Geelong is putting in a motion to do just that for next year Jim.
BTW our state indoor is 2 weeks after the National indoor. kinda silly.

I think you guys in Vic are the only ones still shooting an AUS1 round and not a FITA round.

Yep inner 10 sucks :D.....mainly because I am no good at it D::D:D

My best was at our State indoor 575......all I got out of that was a Red Badge & 4th spot

......but I do love just popping those inners

CMB50
22-10-2003, 11:59 PM
I'd imagine the way people approached the two rounds would differ also. Example, Aust1 indoor round we all know a 300 is attainable, so we put so much pressure on ourselves to shoot that 300 round and are dissapointed when we drop arrows out of the 10.
The Fita round, is similar to shooting outside. While we are still trying to shoot a perfect round (as we should be all the time) dropping the odd arrow out of the 10 isn't as big a deal because it is almost expected.
Mentally, i think they are two very different rounds.

Marcus
23-10-2003, 01:03 AM
Well add 2 more to the list.

Forgot to mention Ian Gilchrist who has shot 290 quite a few times at the club (have not seen him much recently, so forgot. Sorry dude.)

And tonight Kenneth Pedersen, a new wheelchair archer at our club, shot his first 290 round. Well done.

That's 20!

(of course it helps having an indoor range 6 days a week)

You are right on there Clare and it is again a case of a Judge not knowing the rules. Unfortunately, it reflects then on all Judges. I will bring this to the attention of the NSW Judges Coordinator Ken Payne so it will not happen in future.
As you said FITA recognises only Recurve and Compound for Indoor and even the FITA Standard Bow is not recognised for Indoor. There were specific classes nominated for BB compound, which then comes under AA Rules, which states in part , "..with the inner 10 being the only area to score 10 when shooting compound equipment in FITA designated rounds."

Well a sun-burnt and champagne-soaken Jim Park turned up (late) to our monthly indoor tonight, fresh from chatting up glamorous women in his corporate tent at Oaks day, and shot a 300...bloody typical

Dean Anderson (15y/o) shot a PB 292 - impressive. With one per month we have to make them count! So for 290+ we now stand at:

Jim Park
Leigh Cornish
Bryce Lee
Michael Robinson
Zoe Leviston
Bernie Andrews
Dean Anderson

(might be more I don't know about). We have a long way before we catch you though DVA :x

Marcus
06-11-2003, 11:02 PM
Yeah Dean shot a 291 at the State Indoor, which was a U16 record, lucky too, Sten broke it the round earlier with a 290. ;)
Dean's shooting well at the moment, good to see.

Now the question is, did Jim use 3 different arrow sizes and one of the bare shaft? That's what we want him to use at the state indoor next year.

Someone had to do it (chat up glamorous women at Oaks Day, that is). I even got paid for the day.
I shot at DVA last night and continue to be impressed with their enthusiasm and determination to have fun and shoot well. Not sure how many were shooting their indoor last night but it was quite full.

Michael Pless: 295
Luke: 292+290

Sten: 290

Off night for us.

What amazes me is:
- pretty easy 300 on Thursday evening
- very easy 300 on Friday evening (none even near the line)
- really could not hit the thing today at all, quite hopeless, low 330's at 70M at best, shooting with Zoe and Mike (although we did not score - it would have been too depressing)
(actually it doesn't amaze me, been there before lots of times with good shooting one day, not so flash the next).

Hey, it takes skill to hit the exact center of a piece of steel tubing -- especially with a recurve bow! :)

James Park

Mike's "steel test" was indeed very impressive. It was a "steel tear" to compete with the best of all "paper tears". What was also impressive was that the Triple survived extremely well - not even a bent point.
As Mike noted, it was also quite impressive that he managed to conduct the test at all: he had to hit dead centre of a 19mm wide bar at 16M, and using a recurve bow he had never previously shot, with compound-size arrows.
