Out of Japan comes a new competitor to Kurley Vanes and Spin Wings!!

K Vanes... :D

Really I don't even know if they have been released here yet. I only saw a sample left by a product rep. These things look really cool 8) :D 8) .
Very similar to the others but a slightly harder material ( may mean a bit more damage prone ) but the really wild thing is, they look like a fibre optic when viewed from the end. . You certainly won't be straining your optics looking for these in the target.

They appear to come in some vibrant colours, fluro yellow, green and red also blue and grey and white. And I've been told $$$ are going to be cheaper than both Spin Wings and Kurley's

Anyone know anything more??????

I got 3 sample ones last night to try out. They look really good. Stiffer than the normal spin wings so they may be more durable. I'm going to put one on a Doo Sung and see how it flies compared to the others. At this point if they work well in agroup I'll move to them. The colours are really cool. From the back they look fibre optic. From the side translucent.

Saw them at bab eariler in the week when i dropped in . look the goods , told pete I will try a set when he gets them . Not sure about the durability aspect but I like the way that they attract the light especially for field .

I will need some in black though if I have to shoot first :P

I'd be interested to know just how durable they really are. Biggest reason I don't use them is having to replace them all the time

I shot Elite Spin Wings and they were great, but were not at all durable, but they worked so well it was worth it, I just had to keep some spares for emergency replacement at breaks.

If these new ones are OK then I will definitely use them...like the idea of the fibre optic effect, for 90m FITA this would be very handy -- no more searching for a particular nock colour :x

Well there is no point is EVERYONE buys em. All the arrows will look the same! :D

No danger of that I don't think Marcus, there is too much negativity about Spin WIngs anyway -- nearly everyone I have spoken too who doesn't already use them doesn't believe they do anything...As you can see there is a major flaw in that argument, but, what the hey, if they want to give up a tangible advantage then that is their decision!!

Us converted ones will have the coolest looking arrows on the line... 8)

Not that the looks of an arrow make it shoot better, but, it is nice... :-?

Hopefully we can put all these groovey arrows in the 10!! :o

.......mmmmmmm "hey dude, is that my fibre opticky vane in the target that I can see or is that one yours?"

I'm not saying they are bad, but I'd prefer looking for the colour of my nocks...

Having said that, while I wouldn't buy them just so I could see my arrows in the target, if they were indeed shown to be a better vane, that I would consider.

Just for you young fellers, in case you weren't aware.....

K vanes have been around for at least 20 years, in a conventional shape and a number of sizes. They also came in about 20 colours (solid and translucent). Also known as "Flonite" or "Super Flonite"

The new ones with a built-in curve are a recent development, but the material is the same as before.

They are somewhat fragile, not quite as bad as Spin Wings/Kurly Vanes, but the downside is that they are difficult to reshape compared to mylar vanes.

Thanks ttaass
I remember the flonite vanes. Worked quite well and the only complaint I have geard was that they were brittle compared to Flex Fletch and could slice your hand up if your hand slid down the arrow pulling them out of the target.

oooohhhh slicing up your hand pulling out arrows sounds a bit nasty

DON"T MENTION THOSE BLOODY FLONITES AGAIN!!!!!!!

I shot the 1988 Nationals at Sydney in the mud and rain. Was heading in there as very good chance to make the top 3 and the Olympic team.

Greeny was using flonites successfully about then, So I changed over 2months before. I was using the new "instant" glue on my 2114 Aluminium arrows.

BUT I hadn't shot them in the rain.

The morning of the target event i shot the practice ends fine then the first scoring end it got havier with the rain. I shot my arrows and couldn't see the target because of fogged optics...........but thought i saw something funny happening about halfway down.

Got to the target and 5 of my 6 arrows had lost there vanes and were off the butt. Raced back to find my normally fletched arrows and took 2 ends to sight them in.

GOODBYE OLYMPICS

to add insult to injury I pulled the 1 remaining arrow and in the wet my hand slipped and sliced my fingers. Not bad but it hurt

Now that i've brought up that old memory again......................I'm on the phone to the therapist for an appointment :P .............or I could start selling pot to EASE MY PAIN

Some years ago a guy by the name of john Downs turned up in ABA shooting vanes that were almost as stiff as perspex could these be the same vanes that you are referring to on this post, I have never seen them since.

2Dogs
22-07-2002, 06:48 PM
45 & 55 mm................don't think about it...they are a tried and true heap of ****.

You have to replace them every 3 days because they get wrecked

You were obviously reading my mind, just wondering how they might go on a dropaway rest. (dont forget palm pilot)

Do you have any other info on them, size, colour etc. thanks

Marcus
15-08-2002, 04:56 PM
no sorry. I have 3 green ones here that are about the size of the small Spin wings. I think they make a red too.

OldDog
15-08-2002, 05:03 PM
Are they glued or taped to the shaft

Marcus
15-08-2002, 05:05 PM
Taped like Spin wings, yet they have a fletch like base to them so they should be easier to apply.

OldDog
15-08-2002, 05:10 PM
Thanks Marcus, BTW, a little trick I picked up with spin wings and curly vanes, cut about a third of the width of the tape off and throw it it away, this stops leaving exposed tape under the vane and stops your arrows sticking together in your quiver. cheers

I used the curly version of these at the NSW State Championships (got me the prettiest arrow award as a bonus). The flights performed well. Minimal damage and only just replaced 3 flights last week. They don't like going through a target :( Very stable in a wind. Gained a third place. No complaints with the flights :)

i was shooting with them for about 4 months(Uk), and liked them! easy to feltch but a real bugga when shooting indoors! if you get good groups id reccomend shooting at single spot! they dont last very long and when they get put out of shape they dont fly very well.
