Hi stevej,

Sorry, but I don't know what format the Illawara national field comp is. Is it a FITA event or an IFAA event (or 3D)?

It depends on which event it is as to what you can carry....each set of rules has its own restrictions. Let us know what it is and I'm sure we can help you with the rules.

Cheers,

Luke.

If the tournament is a FITA field event then I believe you are permitted to carry anything that is written in the FITA rulebook (ie. the page showing target sizes and range of distances that the target must fall between for the barebow and compound/recurve shooting stakes for the unmarked field round) plus you are allowed to carry paper showing your sight marks, and for those of us that are metrically challenged, a conversion chart from metric to yards. You are not allowed to carry written notes showing your guaging (ummmm, I mean distance estimation :)) techniques and the like. Nor are you permitted to keep written notes showing which target faces you've shot so far on the course. To name a few anyways.

If the tournament is run via IFAA rules, then I think you can carry pretty much anything not bolted down in your household workshop, including computers with yardages, inclinometers, cut-charts (for those not having the fancy hand-held computers), wind speed guages, etc, etc, etc. At least that's my understanding.

For a 3D tournament, you'll have to check into the org's rules running things. Too many variations, at least here in the US, to know for sure how things are run Down Under.

Hope this helps in any way.......

Hi Jeff

Have you tried using a piece of software such as Accurate Sights to get your sight settings with. I use it for my IFAA stuff. I get my sight settings in Metres and it prints out a tape in yards for me. Tried it out and it worked perfectly. I got a 20 and a 70m sight setting and it told me my 80 yard. Went out and shot an X on that shot too. (ie it works well even for distances longer than 70m)

Actually forget that, I'll tell you about it AFTER the World Field :)

Marcus, actually I'm using a top secret magical rubberband for my sight settings. Even easier and cheaper than the yardage softwares and you don't need to carry a handheld w/ you if you find you need to make changes to your sight settings in the field.

To supplement the rubberband I've been using the Archer's Advantage software. Sounded similar in nature to the Accurate Sights software you refer to. I've actually been hoping to get the time to check out the features of the Accurate Sights stuff sometime. I like to play, lol!
