Vic Juniors Camp

Following up on Reidy's comment

I don't know how far out this seems, but I have just been reading the other post started by Gareth titled "What do Juniors want?

It seems that most liked the idea of training camps. There were several mentions of 3D also. Would it be feasible to get juniors from the different archery organisations together for a weekend somehere or would the Insurance industry be the party poopers on this one too?

Perhaps we could get a list of all juniors registered with AV and send them a personal invite. Other associations could do the same. Perhaps those who used to attend tounaments lost interest for the very reasons that we have been talking about and we may just need to get all parties together in one place. The interest may be generated by it self.

Have a bit of coaching and a few talks from people who know what they are on about and just some mucking around. Perhaps hire out a camp and do some archery related activities as well as some non-related activities.

It may be ambitious, but just a thought to keep the ball rolling!

and other comments made by juniors into what juniors want re their archery development and have come up with the following:

An archery camp
Instruction / tips from current archers
Meet other juniors.

What I have in mind for this is:

Back in the early 90's the then Jr Coordinator Alan Weston did one of these at a stud farm out near Geelong Trophy Bowhunters. I would say it was a huge success.
The facility was excellent with a dining hall and bunk rooms. He got many of the current top juniors to help run it and give seminars on aspects of the sport, shooting field, target etc etc. We then did coaching etc. About 40 odd kids turned up I believe.
Good weekend that many got alot out of, I think we sent about 20 kids to the Nationals the following year.

BTW this could be done at DVA if need be if kids bring their own lielows and sleeping bags.

Thanks for the offer Marcus

I think that would be a great idea.

What type of facilities does DVA have?

How much would DVA charge for use of the facilities?

You've never been to DVA? :o
We have a carpeted air conditioned 18m indoor range
kitcheon
shower and toilet facilities
18 target outdoor range
3 field courses (although we are rebuilding those)

very nice rooms. Pop up on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday night or a shoot and check it out.

Charge? I doubt we would charge.

Property values in the area are plummeting even as we speak. 8)

Part of our lease says that Geelong trash can only stay at our club on weekends for sporting purposes otherwise we get booted. :D

Pity to hear that these type of camps for juniors stopped over the years.

They were a regular occurance up here too, especially in my day.

Good to see you guys bringing them back.

I have been off air for a few days, but I now have further reason to push for the juniors as my wife had another baby girl on Friday. My son and I are now out numbered 2 to 1.

It is good to see this idea has progressed so far in a few days and just goes to show the power that people have through such a forum.

Great idea to have it at DVA.

It obviously has some merit and support, where do we go from here?

Congrats REIDY - and a girl. Make sure she shoots recurve.

Had a chat with Marcus and DVA looks like it's a goer.

Suggested time Between the Junior Nats (Jan) and the Senior Nats.(April)

This is timetable I have drawn up that should cover all areas for Juniors.

Cost of the camp $10 per child payable to DVA to cover power, water, target faces etc

Breakfast lunch and dinner and snacks can be purchased from the DVA canteen at DVA prices.

Or maybe $20 per child including breakfast, lunch and dinner
