Verytime I finish shooting my bow arm elbw starts to ache

It has a slight bend in it and I shoot 28.5" of draw

When my new bow arrives it should be 29" this will straighten my arm out, and I am hoping it will stop the pain

Any thoughts?

P.S. By the way I am right handed so no need for smart arse comments :D

Tendonitis, Andrew? Would be on the tendon of the Triceps muscle where it joins onto the elbow joint?
This is quite common if you are shooting with a bent bowarm.
If that is the case, a straight bowarm should fix it.

That's exactly where the pain is right in the joint :x

Lets hope the longer draw will fix it :D

A few years ago I had tendonitis in the bow arm elbow and on the advice of a physiotherapist I bought a strap thingi from the chemist that goes around the arm at the muscle just below the elbow and seems to hold it firmly in place. Combined with a round of anti-inflammatory medication I found that this resolved the problem in fairly short time. A quick trip to your local GP could be worth while.

I had a serious tendinotis on the triceps.
Slow down archery !!
Drink a lot of water to help the muscles and the tendons to keep flexible.

Your tendinotis may come from a bad drawing of the string (you may use more your arm than your back muscles).
Try to draw the bow with a high elbow of the drawing arm (at the level of the ear). It will help you not to use the arm muscles and it will oblige to draw with the back.

Hope you will recover soon!

Cecile,
Drawing like that will raise the rear shoulder, which will then be difficult to get down again. It also promotes using more hand and arm in this type of drawing. Also you can not engage lower traps and will use upper traps instead, which will create tension in the shoulders and neck region. Instead use a reasonably fast low draw about 3 inches below chin, which will allow draw arm to come in line quickly and then raise the hand in one smooth movement to the face. Most archers draw much too slow.

I would suggest see a sports physio and do the exercises he/she suggests

Tendonitis in the bowarm elbow at that tendon happens as follows:
With a bent bowarm the Triceps is taking quite a load while at full draw. At its upper end the Triceps joins onto both the Scapula dn to the Humerus, and at its lower end it joins onto the Ulna - it is the principle extensor muscle of the elbow joint and hence the muscle that takes all the load with a bent bowarm, and very powerful.
With a good surprise release (that is: for a good archer), as soon as the release goes off your bowarm will snap straight (because the Tripeps is still pulling hard and there is nothing now to resist it).
Your bowarm gets to the fully straight position and stops, but the momentum gained by the Triceps in straightening your bowarm keeps the muscle moving and it puts an impulsive load on the tendon joining the Triceps to your bone structure at the elbow joint. It is exactly this, shot after shot that gives you the tendonitis. It is not the way you draw the bow that matters (although as Robert noted, it does matter for other reasons).
Hence, two possible solutions:
1. Anticipate the release, which would let your bowarm protect itself from the shock. However your scores would then decrease very significantly, so it is a very poor option.
2. Use a straight bowarm, which then takes the load off the Triceps and removes the problem. This is very definitely the best solution.

Sorry all, I'd better read in detail everybody remarks... :-?

I had a tendinotis in the drawing arm and shoulder. This is why I suggested this postition of the drawing arm. Without practising this way, I would have never do archery again...

cecile,
Yes, drawing arm is a different matter. I have been talking about bowarm.
