Here we go again SGA have the following shoot coming up in Feb, all that made the trip over here last November for our first ABA Shoot had a ball and enjoyed the challange of the 2 courses that we shot and said they would be back for our next. It was a bit disapointing on the lack of numbers so we are hoping for a better roll up to this the 1st ABA shoot for THE GREATER VICTORIAN BRANCH in the year of 2004. So if you are up to the challange and itching for a enjoyable week-end of archery come along.

Hey all , Who is making the trek up to Hamilton this weekend for the first 2 Day shoot of the year ?
I will be up there on Friday Evining , GOt the supertec humming with 2512 alloys , First time I will shoot alloys at a shoot out of my compound in 6 years , but these big suckers are flying really well and suprisingly flat .
Remember to take plenty of Water because it could get mighty warm up there
Bruce
Mara and I will be there. Can't wait.

Just got home from a great weekend of archery , Great venue , Great people (well most of them) Great weekend.
Many new people experienced the hills for the first time and it freaked a few out .
The courses were in very good nick and it is a credit to the members of the Southern Grampians Club.
See you all Soon
Bruce
Had a great time at SGA over the weekend.
REALLY good courses. The fellas down there have done a fantastic job.
Anyone who didn't make it certainly missed out on a top weekend. Especially the raffle!!!!

I only shot around the 1500 mark . Long time since I looked at the targets , hadn't seen them since November Last year , also shot with a scope for the first time on them , used the wrong sight , I should have taken the Titan 3D off the ultratec and used that , with the bigger body it would have allowed me to see more of the target . I will catch up with Leigh and get another one .
Very happy with the way I shot , all the arrows went pretty much where I aimed them , If only I aimed them in the right place :D
THe 2512 went well, great arrow flight and reasonable speed , Might try and get the poundage up to 67 or 68 # see If I can close the gap up a little . I estimated the distances pretty well but just couldn't find the aiming points .
Looking forward to the BMB shoot
See you there

Bruce. What length are the 2512's and what weight did they finish up at? Wondering wether a slightly heavier, larger alloy might help with line cutting. Did you notice any advantage there?
Bruce

they are about 30.5" long and weigh 444gn. they have a 108gn point in them . I did get some points with line cutters , but need to get used to the targets more to see if they really help. I will shoot them for the year and see how they go .

444gn's? :o
Thats heavy. I imagine that would open your sight gap up considerably compared to say a lightweight carbon. What advantages do the alloys have compared to a carbon?

I have done the maths of large arrows versus small arrows in relation to line cutters.
While you might think that large diameter arrows will get you many more points, that is not the case except where the highest scoring ring is of very small diameter (for example in FITA indoor for compounds where we have to use the inner 10 ring).
Other than FITA indoor for compounds, the gain in line cutting is minimal, and is very much offset by the considerably increased drift if there is any wind. For FITA indoor for compounds I would very definitely use large diameters, for target X10's are clearly the best, for field light-weight arrows are the best (because of slopes and unknown distances).
Happy to share the results from the maths if it is of interest.

Whilst I agree that a flatter arrow is better for field , the sight gaps for my set up at present coming out of the supertec are approximately 2.7mm for every 5 m. The arrows are coming out of the bow beautifully and as ABA is only shot out to 48 metres , and mainly on well treed field courses I am unconcerned with wind drift . At the weekend we had some quite steady winds in places and I found no real drift in the arrows . Bearing in mind that the targets are unmarked and the score zones are unidetifiable . If you were shooting say IFAA you would notice the wind drift more but I have no intentions of using the 2512 for IFAA only 3D and ABA >
I will try them out again at the next shoot at BMB and see how they go again.

Bruce,
I agree that the X7's will work well for a sheltered ABA course. Quite satisfactory and a reasonable choice.
However, for IFAA with the longer distances I think you would do better to use smaller diameter arrows.

Bruce and Brad Glad you enjoyed the week end it went off quite well I think and all seemed to enjoy theirselves . I will get the results off Pete and post them in the next couple of days. Bill and Michael just left , we ended up with one goat each (they gave us a bit of a hard time) Michael got his with that recurve of his.

Good going Bowhunter ,
James totally agree with you, at present I shoot cartels for IFAA , no wind drift with them , shooting with allan using lightspeeds you can see his arrows getting blown around compared to my cartels . I only intend to use the alloys for aba and 3d ,

RESULTS FROM SGA 2 DAY 21st & 22nd FEB 2004
The Southern Grampians Archers hosted GVB first 2day ABA shoot for 2004 on the weekend of the 21st – 22nd of Feb.
With the weather turning out good with the temps in the mid 20s made for an enjoyable shoot. Only 35 Archers made the effort to travel over to support us, which was a bit disappointing since the SGA members try to get to as many shoots as possible to support other clubs. The people that did show had a great week-end with some of the new faces that have only shot on flat courses, finding our courses on the slopes of the Wannon River a challenge with the variety of shots that we set up using the lay of the land and the natural flora to the most.
On the Saturday evening the novelty shoots kept every one amused with Mick Kairn taking off the running fox and Brad Murphy the long shot even with him leaving an arrow imbedded in a tree branch around 4 metres from the ground.
Thank you all for making the effort to travel and also for making it a great weekend.
