Hi Everyone,
I am looking for cheap carbons for recurve target stuff. At the moment I am trying to decide on either CT Sportsters or Easton Redlines as I can't afford the Cartels. If anyone has any advice and/or experience with these, or can recommend any others, I would be interested to hear your thoughts. Also wondering what the various shafts outside diametres are (had a bad time in the wind at a recent comp  ).
Cheers

Hi. If you're looking for cheap carbons for recurve, you'd probably do well with the CT Sportsters, they are $118 per dozen, only thing is, I don't like the outsert points. These are thin shafts.
Next up are the Beman ICS energy shafts are another option, $115 per dozen from south australia, archery academy. A bit fatter than CTs, and I think they use those damn 3 piece points.
You won't go wrong with Redlines though. A friend shoots them out of his avalon, seem to be trouble free to me, unless of course if u miss.

I would ask Bryce Lee what he thought about Redlines, a new set was reduced to about 7 in one round at Sherbrooke through the fronts breaking. This was 18 months ago , they have probably improved now. The CT are a good low cost shaft. I would save for Cartels.

I agree, the CT's are a good shaft and quite cheap, although don't save for the cartels, save for the x10's :)

Yeah agree with Leigh, I wouldn't recommend the Redlines if shooting high poundage. The tips tend to break. However for a under 40# recurve they should be OK.

Thanks everyone :D . I will be shooting 42# so I guess I am leaning towards the CTs. Do any of you know who sells them in Australia?
Compound boy - What's the problem with outsert points? Also, are you Recurve boy's brother? :)
Thanks again

Sorry...another question. Does anyone know if the CT Sportsters are able to use the pin nock system. If so does anyone recommend it over the outsert nocks. Reading one of the other posts on the Cartels concerning the Beiter nocks has me wondering which to go for if I choose these arrows.
Thanks
Alex

The pins are available for only the 210 and 188 sized Carbon Tech shafts. I would avoid them at this point. The pins cause the nock end of the shaft to split when the nock is struck. Rumor has it that CT has delayed the other pin sizes to reduce the splitting.
I haven't had the problems with Beiter nocks that some others have. Maybe I'm not a good enough archer. I've broken many nocks but haven't had damage to the back end of the shaft.
Thanks everyone :D . I will be shooting 42# so I guess I am leaning towards the CTs. Do any of you know who sells them in Australia?
Archery Supplies in Canberra is the Australian distributor. It's pretty cool sending an email off to CT asking them questions and getting quick replies directly from Rick McKinney.. :)

Beman ICS Energy Shafts. $100 a dozen. 1000, 800, 690, 500, 400 etc spines.
Uni bushings installed for G-nocks and they take ACC inserts points.
I'll probably be buying a set soon.
I just hate outserts. And Recurve boy is not my brother. Though, my brother shoots recurve.
