hav'in a little trouble any help would be tops.
G'day Trev. Have you tried using a fox whistle? there is a couple of diffrent ones floating around at the moment. I have had sucsess with the good 'ol tin whistle however, I personaly prefer the Scotch Preditor call which is not a moth-blown call. The problem with this is not getting one in from 50yards but is trying to get a chance to draw on it as with most of my experances they come bolting in and you simply don't get a chance to get a shot in. Wind direction and cammo are also important factors which can increce your chances of out foxing the old fox. Hope you find this info helpfull.

Trev27,
I assume you are getting them to 50 yards, but their pulling up. If they are coming that far, they are at least slightly interested, the question why are they pulling up.
Sight, smell or hearing, whats not quite right from the foxes perspective. If they are not winding you or seeing you, try putting your hand to your lips and sucking really hard at the top of your thumb and base of your index finger to make a loud sqeacking sound and get softer as they come closer. Shut up when they get to 30 yards, you dont want them to pin point your position exactly.
Sometimes foxes get wise to tin whistles, and this sqeak method sounds more natural. Good luck.

I would suggest the fox whistle too
An intersting technique that I have been told by some very successful fox hunters, is to 'talk' to the fox. If a fox is trotting past you within bow range, say somethig like "hey" or "oi" and more often than not they stop in their tracks offering a good shot

I've herd that to, but for pull'in em up if there coming in to fast, just give em a yelp and they'll prop. Unfotunatly havent got to try it out yet, but im working on my calls and are getting convincing stuff out of my scotch. That thing makes my blood run cold but it drives foxes nuts, when they get close i change to the button and a little bit of foot action with a squeaker. It all sounds good but the probelm still remains, they wont comit. Mite have a dodgie batch of foxes in my area or they just arnt hungery, the young'ins are in top condision and there's heaps of food around and feeding is risky buisness when your a fox and some risks are bigger than others. But im not give'in up and there's a hungery dumb arse fox out there somwhere thats gunna fall for it literally... he he.

That's the way I stoped them when I was shooting.
At lot of the times they almost run over you, especially the younger ones.
I found that at certain times of year (mating?) foxes aren't interested in the whistle or squeaker at all...maybe that's the problem? Give it a few months and then have another go perhaps

foxes root in winter ... burrrrr ... cold wang!!!
Now's the best time to be whistling them in. From own until end of June. From July onwards the are too busy trying to get a mate.
Practice is the key. Now is a good time due to the number of younger foxes. They're not as smart and a lot easier to get in than the older ones.
Make your call sound like a wounded animal. Like the sound a rabbit makes when you hit it. Tin whistles, preditor calls, mouse squeekers all work well. You can usually get a variety of calls from you local bow or gun shop. Try them all. Some foxes will respond to some calls and not others
A mate whistled one in last Sat and it came to within 4 yards. It would have kept coming if he didn't shot it. The arrow penetrated it's skull and pinned it to the ground. It expired instantly

Hey Brad how long do you stay on stand?
They say that your supposed to stay there for about 10-15 mins. However i'm a bit impatient and only usually stay for about 5. Then move to another place. Or sometimes i just move about 200 mtrs and try a different call.
Foxes have a short attension span so they forget that they were listening to your call after a couple of minutes. I've got a video of a fox that i shot this time last year. I saw him coming along a game trail and whistled. He stopped and listened and then sat down for a minute. As i didn't whistle again he started looking around for bugs and caught one. Then i whistled again and he decided to come and have a look. He stopped at 10 mtrs and i shot him. There were 3 of us sitting on a log at the time and he didn't make us out at all!

I'v did my share of fox whistling And have curently taken 24 with the bow. Missed tons stuff up on heaps. Everyone here has made great suggestions and I couldn't agree more. I would go out to one spot whistle 20 to 30 foxes in leave it for a month while I hunted afew other spots. then head back there again foxes get educated and won't come into the whistle after a while thats when I minick a wounded bird. Keep em busi aswell I just scream on that whistle with a real shutter squeal. all they can here is food. make sure your camoed all up with cover around you tree as back drop or stand higher then a foxes vison they will pull up right under you. Now to pull a fox up usaully around 5 meters I give out a growl. Make sure your already drawn. I usaully draw when the fox is at a good distance or his vison is bloked from me. your end resuilt hopefully will be like this
