View Full Version : Doing better on day 2

After finishing day 1 of a Fita shoot, I always tell myself that tomorrow I'll do better. Generally this comes true. Today for example, even though I'd shot well on the Saturday.I felt that there were some things I could improve upon to get a better score. Today I shot to beat my range scores from yesterday. An extra 2 points at 90mts,1 point at 70mts,3 at 50 and 1 at 30. Really trying hard not to let that stray shot get away.
Is this how others work to improve their shooting and their scores?

Jay - I always seem to do better on the 2nd day, regardless of how I did on the first day, and this has come true for the last 8 or so FITAs that I have shot. Personally I see it as a concentration problem - if I was 'in the zone' on the first day, then I could have done just as well there. I often find that when shooting tournaments, I need a bit of time to click, and start shooting really consistently.
I tend to shoot worse on the second day. But I put this down to physical more than psychological reasons. I'm shooting 50# longbow, practice only a couple of hours per week, and unrealistically expect to be able to shoot 144 arrow rounds well, two days in a row. The second morning at the longest distance usually finds me out!

Here is a good example
Sherbrooke Silver Cup last year
Shot 339 on day one
Went and ate bucketloads of Mexican that night
10 targets into day 2 and I was looking at a 174, dropped a few and ended with a 169
After lunch kept firing and arrive 4 targets from the end, dropped 17 points in those final 4 targets to get a 326 (was looking like a 340+ before that.
What got me? That bloody Mexican. Body said "yep, 2pm, time for a nap" :x
Next tournament I did the same. Ate Mexican the night before, shot well then lost it at the end.
Damn those Mexicans with their meat and cheese and irrisitable flavours!!
