My son has shown interest in target shooting. his is 13.

He has semi-toy prepackaged bow and arrow from local sport store.

What would be a good next equipment setup for a serious next step? We have expansive property and would start with target shooting in our yard.

Can you suggest type, mfr, model#, a good online place to purchase....any other hints to point me in right direction?

We went to local archery store but was small shop and he was overwhelmed with customers so not much help there.

We are in California.

Thank you in advance

Thank you

I am just a beginner myself, but I just bought a bowtech and the dealer had a junior bow that Bowtech made called the Rascal. For the size of this bow it is a mean shooting little setup.

Best bet would be get ivolved with your local JOAD program. Archery is not the kind of sport that you can just buy the gear and off you play.
Once you have done that check out the Ultrasport by Hoyt or the PSE range.

hi there- im from the states too. A good idea for your son is to get him involved in a JOAD program, like Marcus said. This program is for youth target archery and is run through the National Archery Association. There you will find numerous people to help get your young shooter in gear. You have to take everything into consideration when purchasing a bow. Some info needed to even narrow the bow possibilites are your son's draw length, height, and aprrox. poundage. From that you can work to find a bow that will fit. One main suggestion though is that you have your son at least feel, pick up, may be even shoot the bow (depending), before you purchase it. Fit means everything, and some bows are right for some people and others aren't. For me, I have to pay extra attention to the grip, and it has to be perfect, or else I can't shoot it properly. With bows, there isn't a real right or wrong answer for everyone...
