View Full Version : How does DVA work ?
Being a newbie to DVA I don't know how things work, if I wanted say a 3daaa paper course or an IFAA course setup do I have to approach the commitee or put a submission in or ?
Thanks in advance !
Garath
we will soon have 14 target iffa course 20 target 3daaa &2 20 target aba courses up & running . If you & other members come up speak to committee members we will bring up items at next meeting . If you or any member wont things done around the club it can only happen if enough people give up some shooting time and pitch in and do it,dont wait around for it to happen help make it happen..

Well Said dad ,
I was slightly dissapointed with the amount of willing workers at the last ABA shoot I attended at your club .
THe only way to get things happening is put in , you only get out of any club what you are prepared to put in ,.
Good luck for the 3d this weekend , I had hoped to make it up but will be unalbe to attend

As said Gareth.
We need more people to help out. It's actually pretty easy once we get the bodies on the ground, takes little time and shooting doesn't suffer, plus it's rewarding shooting a course you helped lay out and think "dammit, I made this hard!"

As the other guys mentioned Gareth - anything can happen if people want it :D
Bruce....there were many more underlying reasons why nobody wanted to help run the ABA 2 Day shoot than simply not having enough volunteers. You of all people should understand the underlying intricacies at the time.
I hardly think it's fair to imply that DVA members are lazy........

LUKE , I agree that there where other things going on . Personally i noticed many of your clubs ABA members sitting back and letting a couple of guys run around like chooks with there heads cut off. (THese weren't people caught up in the tensions of the time .) Members from other clubs had to help organise bow checks and data entry . And even if there were some issues being worked through , I would have thought that the members of a club would have enough get up and go to ensure that everything ran smoothly whilst members from other clubs were visiting there establishment .
I have some great friends at DVA , but it seems to me that the physical workload on the courses and the like doesn't get shared around as much as it should .
This is not an attack on DVA merely an observation . I have made over attending the club as a visitor for the last 16 years . I wish you all well for your shoot this weekend at he club , myself I will be bbqing snags all weekend as a fund raiser for my club.

I think what you are describing Bruce is something that clubs fall into the habit of doing.
Lets say you have 10 people required to run a shoot. Those 10 get together and put one on. After a few times things are going well and all 10 know their spot. Extra help isn't needed, and in fact kinda gets in the way.
One year 2 can't make it. No problem, 8 others fill the void, afterall, they can handle it.
After a few years that 10 has come down to 4, then 3, then 2. Suddenly that 2 is thinking "bugger, this is hard work and no one is willing to help! So they simply stop in frustration.
Meanwhile new members have come along and would have been happy to help, hwoever didn't realise that they were needed or welcome to. The guys who ran these shoots are gone, suddenly they must:
Simply not run them
or figure it out on their own.
DVA is in the second phase right now. We have a hand full of new keen guys and girls trying their best to get things moving. We are still finding our way and get help from some of the old guys (thanks for Luke's help even when he isn't shooting) and are starting to breed that new crew of workers.
Now the key is to replace guys when one drops off. ;)

Yep Marcus , I think that you are pretty much on the money ,
I hope your club continues to grow and evolve into a formidable club both on the target range and the field course .
