After reading Dr Ralph's post about having a bad day at the field shoot.
I was wondering if others have Good days and bad days?
I tend to have only good days.I'm not gloating or anything, but I approach each shoot knowing how well prepared I am for it and can expect to shoot to a certain level.
If I have been slack and not training I can expect to not shoot as well as I could.I've been shooting long enough to know if I am ready for a shoot and can expect a particular score.
In my mind, I know what I can acheive and how to go about accomplishing my goals.
A bad day for me is when an equipment failure happens and you are not prepared.I know that I will have a good day because I am always mentally and physically prepared for the shoots I attend.
Do others approach their shooting the same way?

:D Idon,t know? I think maybe you are trying too hard .I think you should enjoy the bad days too.I know you should practice, but don,t over do it ! Have good & bad days they bring you back to earth! As a coach i was taught about being in the "zone". Good days are when you are in the zone, bad days are when you aren,t. Just enjoy both .Dont stress too much about it. And yes we all have "good and bad " days, that,s what makes it so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was really quite looking forward to the shoot. I was ready with my equipment, sight settings, fletched up my arrows fresh. I generally enjoy competitions.
The main difference was having a cold/virus during the week, which I thought I was over, and I didn't sleep well the night before.
Honestly I had an OK time, but there seemed no way I could get my shooting to work. I checked my equipment (all bolts/screws, sight, brace height, nocking point, pressure button, arrows, limbs) and there was nothing wrong. I just couldn't hold the bow still.
I'm hoping it was a genuine physical low, due to the virus.

I certainly get days when I do better than on others, and I see it in the score. On the days when it is not as good I am certainly aware that it is now and would love to know how to "turn on the good stuff". Other days it becomes very easy to aim well and the arrows just go in the 10 without much effort.
I have certainly had days when, in advance, I knew I would be difficult to beat - the Nationals Target in 1999 was one such event, the Oceania Championships in 1996 was another.
One thing I find that does influence such things is how tired I am from work during the past week.

"I was wondering if others have Good days and bad days?"
Although I am not a mental health expert, I can assure you of one thing - only crazy people have all good days. Anyone who is way to convinced that they only have good days is either medicated, or on their way to being medicated.
:P   :P
Seriously though. Bad days aren't that bad, they teach you things. You find form faults, you find limitations, you find lapses in concentration - all things you can work on. They also make the good days oh so more memorable...

I agree with you! when I'm in a good day, I just shoot and that's all: arrows hit the center without any effort. But I really learn a lot from my bad days, because I analyze my shooting, searching for the cause of my bad feeling and my mistakes. Than I make some changes to help my tecnique becomes stronger and more efficient. The bad days are painfull but usefull at the same time

Well, my good days are good, apart from one problem, to have a good day, it generaly includes hitting my arm at least 5 times. :-?
Bad days, i get over, i think u learn more from them, and push urself harder, so that on those bad days you can still shoot a half decent score with ok form

aswel as having good and bad days, i think u can have more than one day either good or bad.
good times are wonderful, i get more confident, which makes me shoot more confident, and better form.
bad times are the times when it really counts when u get out of bed to do some training. i think, once u get over the thought of 'i dont wanna shoot today'. thats when u can call urself a committed archer.
so i think u have to have the bad times, to appreciate the good times when they come.
