View Full Version : Fundraising for TT - including Sherbrooke Matchplay

Hi everyone,

Doug forwarded an email about a fundraising barbecue at Sherbrooke (Vic) this Saturday the 20th, for Gill's young charge Dean, followed by some matchplay which I love even though I'm as slow as a wet weekend when it comes to shooting.

Regrettably, I cannot attend as I have Juniors and Newbies for supervised shooting on Saturdays. Given I've just changed it from a Sunday, I feel they expect me to attend.

However, the issue of fundraising is of general and specific interest to me for several reasons.

Would it be desirable to have on the AV calendar two (or more) shoots per year specifically for fundraising for the TT?

Don't quiz me on things like format, location and costs - I just feel the concept is worth discussing for now. If it has support from the masses, then the time is right to discuss the details.

I'm happy to put it to Doug - not that I have his attention in any particular way - or whoever I should to try to garner some financial support as well as moral.

If the consensus is that it could be a goer, then I'll put my ideas up for discussion here, under a separate thread.

Cheers,

We have so far run a couple of fund-raisers:
- Bryce Lee prior to the World Target in 2001
- Erika Anear prior to the World Target in 2003
For each of those:
- They were organised by a few enthusiasts who thought it sounded like a good idea at the time
- We tried to use the opportunity to also give them some seriously challenging practice for the event

The matchplay starts in the arvo, can you make it anyway? Can you send Nicole along with Sten? Good practise for the TT.

I think it's a good idea. We did fundraising last year for Erika and Kellie for the worlds. Disappointing AV did not do any or pitch in. (I submitted a motion for AV to look at a fund for this purpose, the 'executive' didn't even let it go to council)

A yearly one would be great, I would say centred around matchplay. Perhaps

March - Jr Team Fundraising Matchplay
June - Sr Team Fundraising Matchplay

I think it is better to have them very specifically focused rather than a general fund-raiser.

I was thinking specifically for the Trans-Tasman.

If there were two per year, and the TT is every two years, it could well ease things for the next team. 'Course, the TT is in Oz next time around, so as far as plane tickets goes, there'd be four years worth of fundraising.

This means some current archers wouldn't get the benefit, but there's some other implications to consider too.

How many junior-specific competitions are on the calendar - there don't seem to be many?

Cheers,

DVA use to run one, however during my hiatus from the sport the club stopped running them. Use to be vastly popular.
I believe the round was
U18: Canberra
U15: Sht Canberra
U12: Jr Canberra

Perhaps next year we can revive it. I'm starting to see an increase in juniors competing, perhaps the time is right.

As you know as a single mum it is not easy for me to send Dean to NZ.
I have arranged a 'Have a go with a bow' from 10.00 - 2.00 on Sat 20th March. which includes a BBQ.
Jim has kindly mentioned this in the invite to Sherbrooke for the afternoon matchplay.

We have run a few fundraising events specifically for Junior Nationals. Possibly will be collecting rags (resalable clothes) in a month or two. We have the go ahead from AV, but are waiting for information from the Salvos who will pay us $5.00per bag. (I'm sure that everyone will have a bag or two of clothes that no longer fit or are getting a bit 'out of fashion'.
I will let all of the clubs know when we get the info. But for now don't send anything to the charity collections - please keep them for Junior National fundraising.
