After shooting the release for two or three weeks I thought I might share my thoughts on it. The release is a big unit which is a little off putting when you first see it, however when I shoot with it it gives me the best anchor I have ever had, Loading the release is different to most, it works better if you shoot a d loop than a release rope but can be shot either way, the timing of the release is infinitely adjustable simply by turning the screw on the thumb trigger, it can be set anywhere between zero and about 10 seconds, each user will work out the time frame that suits them, The real surprise is that this release is the best back tension training device I have ever used, to try and use it without b.t. is a waste of time as you will start to preempt the release and flinch, if you try and use it with a static b.t. you will have the same result, The light really turns on when you anchor aim then increase b.t. until it goes off, Magic. within a couple of weeks I have been able to double the time span at which I can hold my concentration without flinching, Ever since I bit the bullet and tackled b.t. surprise release I have had a problem with anticipating the release, Since I started training with the hydraulic this has all but disappeared, I feel that with a bit more work I can cure it completely This is the best training device I have ever used, If there is even the slightest amount of gold shy, target panic doubt or any thing else you want to call it this release is for you, If you simply want to practise perfect form without wondering wether the release is going to go off once again this is for you All in all a very helpful and worthy addition to the serious archers tackle box :D .

Hey Noel, I don't know much about this release, but if it's set to a static time limit before it goes off, then wouldn't you be inclined to anticipate the release after a while? Or would you recommend changing the time limit often so you don't get into that habit?

Also, once the release is engaged, what sort of back off mechanism is there if you decide to let down?

Cheers,

Luke.

the screw for setting the timing can be adjusted with the fingers Luke, it makes it a simple thing to change the timing to a different spot without knowing where, the safety mechanism is quite simple, if you wish to abort the shot simply press the thumb trigger and the release wont fire. (cant fire)

Sounds cool, I look forward to seeing this release in the flesh......

......I'm assuming it's a fraction of the cost of that electronic release, (I think it was the Exit). Wasn't that one something like $1500 bucks?

Yes, I wanted to buy one a couple of years ago but couldnt afford it, the scat hydraulic retails for 395.00

Still kinda pricey, but I guess not bad value when compared to some of the very 'simple' releases at around the 300 mark.......

I recently bought an X-it for $350 USD off E bay. Carter had it for about 2 months trying to make it work. I got it back yesterday and shot it last night. It was a blast at first, but then it made me nuts.

You hook up, anchor and aim, then push the button and it fires in about 3.5 seconds. Well when you KNOW its coming and you HAVE to hold on the X, it can make one kind of tense up. Anticipating that fire is instant target panic flinching. I don't normally have target panic but this thing is finding some.

I just used the dead-release methog; anchor, aim, push button, panic aim.
I was "spent" dealing with the pressure. I can't wait for my Carter Solution 2 to get back from repair.

Hey Oxford, if you shoot the release the same as a back tension you will ovewrcome the anticipation, I struggled initially with the hydraulic but when I started using it correctly it has been a great help in increasing the time I can aim properly. cheers

The releases are available from Casino outdoors Ph 0266624848 They work by depressing the thumb trigger and holding it until you have anchored, release the trigger and the hydraulics take over and set the release off at the preset time (variable) they are available in both hand held and wrist caliper style. I agree with Noals findings on this one. After shooting just one round with it I was using back tension better with my Ultra 4 release. Read Noals findings on this release above, good read.

This Scat release aid is way cool.

I shot it tonight (albeit with Marcus's bow, the CyberTec is in hospital) and I really like it.

It is a little tricky to load, but I guess I said the same thing when I started playing with Stans, but now they are second nature. The mechanism is very nice and smooth, I also like the quick adjustment screw you can play with whilst shooting to keep you on your toes.

At first I though the handle looked and felt too chunky, but it is very comfortable to shoot, and easy to get a really nice deep grip.

My thoughts on the ergonomics of the whole thing after shooting was that with a little refinement the thumb trigger it could be made a little more comfortable, and I'd like to see the head reversed so it loaded from the other side (this is obviously just my personal preference).

One slight annoyance was that with the head in its current orientation, the release rope was whipping my chin on release. This happened I believe to Marcus also. (must be a mexican thing :D )

I found the concept very comforting to shoot. Just draw, settle in, start aiming, drop thumb off trigger, keep pulling, and a few seconds later BOOM!

:D X :D

Some people showed some anticipation issues with it, but I think that's partly because they are used to anticipating the shot with their current release.

All in all, a wonderful product, and I think it would make an outstanding indoor release and training aid, although I don't think I'd really like to shoot it in a big wind

...better be careful Noel, I think Marcus is getting pretty comfortable with it in his quiver :o

Cheers,

Luke.

Meh, I admit the hydro release is kinda cool, but nothing compared to the carter electric release. :D

I agree with you Luke, the rope whipped my face as well but so do a couple of the reverse load carters and trueballs, the problem is easily solved by shooting a d loop it is also infinitely easier to load with a dloop, I too believe the thum trigger could be slightly different in shape, however after shooting it for a while I dont notice it.

Shot 2 rounds with today, broken into halves for each one to illustrate my own mess ups.

Round 1
147
143
290

Round 2
148
140
288

Shot a 7 on my last arrow to ruin it for me. I was getting tired and just didn't concentrate. It's not as easy to shoot as some will think, but what it does teach is that I am just lightly anticipating the shot (something I suspected) and is helping me fix that issue. Love it, you will have to come here and get it back Noel!

Marcus, just what exactly does it mean to "just lightly anticipate the shot??????"

How does this differ from a PUNCH!!!!!!!!

Marcus

Anticipation is not punching.
Punching is the forcing of the shot to go off at a particular time.
Anticipation is tensing at the time of release.

Anticipation is a common problem that occurs with long time BT users, usually if the release gas been set fine.

thanks for the insight on the scat release noel :D
After looking at your release up at coffs I liked the idea of the hydraulic system but at the same time I was still sceptical. I felt that that the system would be great for a period of time and then the shot anticipation would start to creep in.

After reading your submission to the forum, and chatting with Geoff Chapman who trialled the wrist style scat, I believe that if you shot this release correctly (forgot that it goes off automatically) groups would really start to tighten up. i will be calling Rob tommorrow to get him to send me one of the wrist style releases.
