yes, thats when you shoot differently to your form, and who said anything about blaming coaches for shooting badly? coaches are there to help you improve, give you new ideas, give you advice and experience., definitely not to blame

this is a cot (well at the moment im not shooting to good because my coach has change my form once again.) what do u say to that
Poison
02-05-2004, 08:19 PM
im quite sure mclaura wasnt blamingher coach for her poor shooting, just giving reason; thus being that she isnt settled into the new technique, and not concentrating as well on her scores but on successfully mastering her form.
Foxcub
02-05-2004, 08:21 PM
ok we are geting same where know as u see my dad is my coach he just tell me what he thinks i am doing row and and that is all. all i am saying is make same chosse on your onew if it is not working
mclaura
02-05-2004, 08:21 PM
im not blaming my coach, im just saying im not shooting well because i have to get used to my new form. When anyone tries something new, it takes a while to get used to but when i am used to my new form i know i will shoot better.
Poison

we're not saying that we dont, simply that having a coach around makes it a little easier if you get lost. they help guide you in the right direction, give you the principles, of course you make some 'personal touches' on the way:)

well i consider my "coach" more a friend than a coach. He helps me refocus if im having a "bad" day, which everyone does have. He doesnt coach me all the time. Just when i feel like im doing something wrong, i can go tohim and know that he can help me out. He only change my form because he thought that it may help my balance. If the new technique doesnt work, i can go back to my old form and my coach wont care because he just wants me to shoot to the best of my ability. Trying new things and making mistakes is how you learn important lessons in life.

fox cub, your weird. i can't live with out my coach.
i've changed my form heaps just recently (and it seems to be working) and everytime i've felt like going f#ck it! his made relize a few thing that i'm doing right and balances it out again. i would have left this sport about 2 years ago if it wasn't for him. but it doesn't stop me from turning around and blaming him for every thing cos he knows i'm letting off steam and then we get back to coaching me.
if it doesn't make sense i'll try and start thinking.

fox cub, your weird. i can't live with out my coach
I'm not that reliant on coaching, but I totally agree they can help heaps, especially when things are going wrong. I don't have a coach at the moment but it is good to have one even if it's just once or twice a month to make sure you are not getting into any bad habits.
What do you both shoot?(Field, Target, 3DAAA and so on) It might expain difference in opinion. :D Eg if you shoot field or something like that you may not feel you need a coach as much beacuse you want to focus more on how you shoot aim of...and so on. :D Where as target you might want to get your coach to look at your form beacuse you don't have to worry about all of that buisness with the slopes and stuff. :D

Coaching, hhmmm
Seen first hand how far having no one to coach you can take you. You don't need someone who will stand behind you like a statue staring at you for a whole day yelling out "No your elbow is too high!". However it is important that you have access to someone you can talk to and get help with things when they are not going right.
Lets say you get alot of left shots, your coach can l;ook and say "hhmm, your arm is a little out of line" and within minutes you are fixed, may otherwise had taken months.
Coaches help fast track the learning process.
Personally I was struggling for about 18 months, averaging 286 outter 10 indoor. Got some help and now average 294 outter10 and 284 inner 10 indoor. If I did not get that help I may have improved 1 point on average. Invaluable.
With that said not everyone needs a formal coach, most just need a helping hand every now and then.

Access to quality coaching is invaluable.
I'm fortunate enough to have excellent advice available to me.
Last year for a while, I really felt like I couldn't hit anything - and I knew I wasn't shooting to my potential. I just couldn't work out what was wrong. Some excellent form examination and advice from Marcus and James Park last year identified a number of things I could be doing better, and it helped me to grow my scores significantly. The results were fantastic.
It's the really little things that will take you from say feeling like shooting a 300 indoor is almost impossible, to being disapointed when you shoot a 299 :D
Marcus is right - not everyone needs a formal coach looking over your shoulder every time you shoot, but advice and coaching assistance when it's required can be most helpful. It's extremely difficult to develop excellent form all by yourself, and even more difficult to identify problems and errors without help.

you must choose your coach very wishly. you need a coach that will help you perform better and teach you how do everything your self so that one day you can help someone else my old coach didn't do that. but since i got a new one i now lots more about my bow and how to tune it and every thing like that.

hey chris!! congrats on the new bow!!! one question- why did you choose the prolelite over the ultra elite?? Im shooting the ultra elite. Im guessing braden had something to do with it because he's the only fita shooter i know who shoots the proelite. Braden was ok after the 1399, he was a lil disappointed because he wanted to break 1400, but you know him, he's never happy with how he really performs. lol. But he shot really well that week. Him and steven schwade both made the senior US Archery team, which is really amazing!! I would love to come to OZ sometime, theres only one problem though- $$. You should think about coming to the World Archery Festival in Las Vegas this february- its a huge shoot and people from all over come to it!!!! Plus we all know that Vegas is a great place to be!!!

Sem - Sean sais to say hello. He misses being your "shooting buddy". He needs to take a ladder down to the target to reach the high ones now!!!
Actually his shooting has improved since he shot in Sydney. His last fita was a 1256 - not bad for a 9 year old. He is keen on a better result in Nowra. We must be lucky shooting in the warm sun all year round. I guess you don't think of those things until you miss them? Anyway, rather than make the forum a "personals" column, we will see you all in Nowra.
Damn - that's two posts :x I was hoping to keep my post count down - I am trying to remain "beginner" for as long as possible. :D
