View Full Version : Matthews flat nock travel

I watched Leigh Cornish measure the flatness of the nock travel as the bow was drawn for his MQ2. It was very impressively flat from brace height until well into the wall. There was no vertical nock movement at full draw and into the wall at all, and it would clearly not have any vertical error on the target if the archer varied how hard he pulled into the wall. It is one of the best I have seen in this test. (My PSE Quantum is also very impressive in this important and very revealing test). This type of result is a strong contributor to ensuring a very "forgiving" bow (whatever that means).

Alright better delete this thread!!
Looks like I'm really going to have to try this test out, sounds like a good one from Jim's descriptions.

Yes, I know we are not supposed to say good things about Matthews, but it was impressive.
One of the very attractive things about a single cam bow is that if the nock travel is correct (as in the MQ2 and Quantum mentioned above), it will always be correct. It will not "go out of adjustment" as could happen with dual cams or wheels. (On the other hand, if it is wrong, there is absolutely nothing you can do about it!! - except perhaps sell it and buy another one).
It is an extremely good test to do on your bow as it will immediately tell you if the bow is sensitive to how hard you pull it into the wall. With a twin cam bow it will immediately tell you if you need to adjust the cam timing (if the nock goes up as you pull it into the wall it means that the bottom cam is turning over earlier than the top cam, and vice versa, so it tells you which cable to lengthen or shorten).
My experience with twin cam (or wheel) bows is that if it is wrong you can sometimes fix it by adjusting the timing, but sometimes you can not. For one of my bows I could not fix it, so I sold it.

Whats a MQ2 ????? isn't on the Mathews Web page
Yeah, Paul, I was wondering that too. Leigh shoots a Q2 and a Legacy, so I presume its the Q2.
(this is perhaps part of a sneaky plot by a certain PSE prostaff shooter to confuse the masses who want a Matthews!!!! Just joking... we really don't need to go down that path again! )

Yes guys, I guess I got it wrong. It would be a Q2 (I do not know the Matthews range very well). Leigh's Q2 had a straighter nock travel than his Legacy.

I was pleasantly surprised by the straightness of nock travel on my Q2, manufacturers sometimes tell fibbs about their equipment. Legacy is almost as good but I should explain I have been playing with the cam by machining the string slot closer to the axle to give more letoff (lazy). It also does not rise at full draw preasure.
