Hello to all, I'm very new to archery and was wondering; after reading a few posts; can compound bows of the same model and manufacturer have different characteristics? What makes a good bow and why?

If you are talking same Make, model and specs then with most high end bows these days the answer is no. In the last 6 months I have shot 3 Protec XT2000 bows and they all felt pretty much the same and shot the same. The differences were:
2002 Protec XT2000 CC+: Twin cam bow. The 2002 grip was thicker also. Shot well. Difficult to really get timed perfectly however. First end was a 59 at 60m.
2003 Protec XT2000 Cam 1/2 75%: Shot for 3 months. Shot well with it and the only complaint was the high letoff modules. Was grouping perfectly within a few hours.
2003 Protec XT2000 Cam 1/2 65%: Shot for 4 months. Shot well with it however was on and off with it. The timing was not critical but did make a difference.
2003 Protec XT2000 Spiral Cam 60%: Shot for 1 month now. Shot indoor PB within 3 days and a few outdoor PBs. Basically the same bow as above with different cams.

Each one feels just a little different thanks to the cam changes, however the string angles are the same and am able to get the draw length exactly where I need it.

What makes the latest bow better for me is:
The Spiral Cams are 12fps faster. This has allowed my to shoot a much heavier arrow outdoors which helps with wind drift.
The wall is more solid which is less forgiving to draw length changes, thus my scores have improved.
The Cam breaks better, difficult to explain.

Why I like this model against others is
The brace height is huge, makes it easier to shoot
The speed is still high, as fast as many bows with an inch shorter brace height
The string angle is pretty much perfect for me

Hope this helps, most likely not. ;)
