Is anyone familiar with the Bowmaster Portable Compound Bow Press? Can they be used on a Hoyt UltraTec bow?
Since I don't have any shops near where I live, I really need a bow press to do my own work but can't afford $300 for a fancy one and saw this one for around $40 US.
I just want to make sure I am not going to mess up my new bow, though.
Thanks, Jim

Jim,
I've heard and read in the manual that you should not use a bow press that puts any pressure on the riser the bowmaster with the split limb brackets seem to be 1 of the few things you can use.

with a price difference like that, i would have to question the quality

I have one and it works well however you need special attachments if it is to be used on a split limb bow.
I have only used mine a couple of times before purchasing a Dieter bow press as I am also miles away from any archery shops or clubs.
But they are OK I think from memory it was about $80AU

I have one and use it on solid and split limbs and it works great. The only diff is the hoyts need limb hooks which adds a bit to the cost but still very good value IMO.

The guy's in the US I doubt he'll import one from Australia, I would recommend the Ratchet-Loc available from Cabelas or Bass pro, they are around the $90US mark and are far gentler and easier to use than the bowmaster.

Sorry, personal opinion here but please god no, don't use that site as a source of information! Just had a look at it, and apart from it overflowing with Google adds (the whole purpose of the site I'd guess), most of the information I saw is either downright wrong (any Archery site which refers to a bows Limbs as "Arms" concerns me), overly simplied to the point of uselessness, or completely misses the point of the topic being explained.
It looks like someone has gone to a single have-a-go session, or read a magazine about the subject, and decided to write a site about Archery. Hell, much as I'm loathed to say it, even Wikipedia would be a better option for useful information!
I've just lost 5 minutes of my life reading that site, and I want them back! :-)
