I was doing good making 10's at 50 yrd. Went to 60 yrds and found out I couldn't lower my sight any more or it would hit the arrow. I'm a rookie.

The guy that sold me the bow said I should be able to hit 70M possibly 90M with the bow he sold me. He suggested lighter arrows or bringing my sight in closer or even inside the bow.

I put the sight inside the bow and even hit some 10's at 70M. Not to many but not bad for a rookie :-)

But I want to shoot 90M and won't be happy with my equipment until I can.
So I asked him about it again and he suggested lowering my anchor point.

Well that seems to be the problem. I am now putting my index finger under my chin and touching the string to the center of my nose and chin.

Problem is my shooting sucks and I am having to learn to shoot all over again. And now I no longer have a complete set of arrows :-( I was doing so good with the higher anchor point.

I think I established a good new anchor today and got back to the 50 yrd mark.

I wonder if anyone really cares? I mean I wonder if anybody might offer any suggestions or advice on learning to shoot. Besides getting a coach.

Hi tikvah,

I can't promise we can help, but I will promise we'll try :)

Some more specific examples of the equipment you're using at the moment would be helpful....including bow model, arrows, sight, poundage, arrow length etc...pretty much as much as you can think of.

At least with that info we might be able to help you along to 90m.

I hope we can help

Cheers,

Luke.

Unfortunately you are going to have to move your anchor point down and learn to shoot that way.

It is important to have the sight extended to the optimum distance (see James Parks other thread) and it is more important to have well tuned arrows than light ones.

I had a similar problem lately, I couldn't make 90m with a different scope that I am now using. I used to have a 94 mm peep to arrow distance (at full draw) but have had to move it to about 105 mm. This at first was extremely uncomfortable (I have shot my best scores with a high anchor point) but by changing not only the vertical position of my release hand but also by putting the hand a bit further back, I found a good position (this means that I am now a little over drawn though, but I'll fix that later). My middle finger now sits just under my jaw bone.

Once you learn a lower anchor point, you will be able to shoot 90m comfortably. DO it this way rather than adjusting the equipment. I found that within a week I could shoot to the same standard as before (around 57s at 70m).

The only bit of equipment change that MIGHT help is ypur release aid. Some releases are more comfortable than others for each archer (thats why they come in all shapes and sizes) I have just changed to a Carter "Same Old Thing" and this works well with my new anchor point.

A couple of things that might help, If you use a d loop you can pick up approx. 1/2 to 5/8ths of an inch,in peep height use as small a diameter scope as you are comfortable with to allow more clearance, and use if possible a lighter arrow, Cheers
