mike
09-09-2002, 11:44 PM
Well, thank you Marcus for such a wonderful title. Little did I know, when I was just a little boy at school, that one day, in the future, I would become the person to make the 5000th post on archery-forum.com. It is quite an honour and a privilege. I have worked hard at this and I am pleased to have achieve my goal. I have to thank my girlfriend for putting up with me over the years of training and to the neighbours cat for biting at my fingers as I type. Without these special people I may never have had the courage to go on in my quest for this special prize.

Now I will have to get to work on a golf or lawn bowls forum.

:P :P

Marcus
11-09-2002, 05:25 PM
I suprised you didn't   Mike

Well at this rate we should hit 10,000 by mid November. No kidding. However the posts are a touch inflated due to certain controversial topics recently. However I'm sure the new bows coming out in October will help out.

That's the goal guys, 10000 posts by Dec 1st!! 8)

James Park

Dammit! Need another 12 and I have a visitor tonight!!!! Everyone must be out watching football or something! WHERE ARE PEOPLE'S PRIORITIES!!!!!!! :x :x

James Park
28-09-2002, 09:26 PM
Have tried to stir up some arguements, but all the regulars must have visitors, or gone drinking, or are out practicing night turkey shooting, or something. Mike, Zoe, Luke, Paul, Noel, etc, where are you when we need you to get to 6000!!!!

James Park
28-09-2002, 09:53 PM
By my calculation we are now at 6000.
10.50pm

Marcus
28-09-2002, 10:00 PM

Marcus
28-09-2002, 10:04 PM
Hey and Jim you passed 500 poss tonight!!! Only the 3rd person on this board to get there and the first outside of DVA to do it.
Thanks greatly for your contribution, it's been invaluable! :D

Steve B
28-09-2002, 10:39 PM
Marcus, it is great to see the board rockin so damn well, Jim well done on the 500 milestone, if I keep puting inane comments in I might get there as well, at least you can say you did it with technical talk :D .
Once again well done Marcus and to all on the board who contribute to it.

I hung around till about 10 oclock but i thought every one was in bed so I bailed, Those controversial debates sure push the numbers up dont they, I cant wait for the new bow releases so they can start all over again, cheers everyone. :D :D :D

Wha? Huh? Controversial, us? Nah! Never

Can't wait for the new catalogue releases either....

James Park
29-09-2002, 08:14 PM
You will no doubt all be remarkably impressed that clout is now the equal second most active topic on the forum. Five more posts and it will take over the lead from "reflex bows".

Eberbachl
29-09-2002, 08:38 PM
Those two threads are most certainly two of the "all time greats" :D...geez this place is fun

James Park
29-09-2002, 09:39 PM
We have done it - clout is now the most popular topic on the forum!!

Marcus,
At the furious rate of postings tonight I think we might get to 7000 in just a day or so.

Marcus
30-09-2002, 09:33 PM
Yeah, that would be pretty cool, however it's a good thing it can't tell the difference between intellegent posts and drivel or we'ld be no where near 1000 yet!

Good fun though!

Marcus
30-09-2002, 09:39 PM
We are pretty close to 200 for today alone!!!
Proof that TV on Monday nights suck!

mike
30-09-2002, 09:48 PM
No, Marcus that isn't what it proves, it says something a lot more disturbing about us and our lives I'm afraid...

For example, today I got up at 10:30, stuffed around at home, printed a new sight tape for my sight, then went down to the club to shoot for about 4 hours, helped unload strammit for target butts, then went home. had dinner, in front of the computer, and have basically been on the forum since....

what is wrong with this picture I ask the audience...

Marcus
30-09-2002, 09:52 PM
You wasted valuable forum time eating? :-? :-?

mike
30-09-2002, 09:57 PM
Yeah, sorry, I probably shouldn't even have gone to the club for a shoot :P

Why practise shooting when you can sit in front of the PC and talk about it... :P :P :P

I will make an effort in the future to attend the forum 10 hours a day at least..hang on a minute, I already spend about 12...

mike
30-09-2002, 10:04 PM
Here's a stat:

Since Sept 11, we have averaged 68 posts per day!!

Impressive, and the new bows still haven't come out...

PSE and HOYT are going to love us...hehehehehehe!!!

Steve B
30-09-2002, 10:45 PM
Apart from the great number of posts I see here, (well some are drivel as you have stated but hey who cares it's all fun anyway) I did notice that you appear to be handing around the tossa of the week "Label", I suppose that you shall pass it around to whom you believe to be the biggest tossa and at the end of the year the person that has had it the most gets to have the special label of Tossa of the Year !!!!!!!
I am sure that some our regulars will want to work hard for that Marcus !!!! :o  :o

Eberbachl
30-09-2002, 11:09 PM
One thing is for sure Steve, it will take a hell of alot of skill to decide who is the biggest tosser around here  ...plenty to choose from :)

mike
03-10-2002, 09:14 PM
Here's a stat:

Since Sept 11, we have averaged 68 posts per day!!

Since we reached 6000, we have been posting at the insane rate of 130 posts per day!!!

What other forum is able to produce drivel at that rate and still manage to include some archery content?

If my memory serves me correctly, that will mean that we have gone from 5000 posts to 7000 in < one month (I think we hit 5000 on 9/9/02 ! ...we've come a long way in a bit over a year :bday:

Good work

mike
08-10-2002, 11:07 AM
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the 7000th post!!

:o

Marcus
08-10-2002, 11:26 AM
Notables too are:

On the 5th of September Luke hit 500 posts and no one else was close. Now:
Luke has 781
Jim Park just hit 600
Paul Malynn has 519
Mike is close with 486

12 users have over 100 posts

In the last month there have been
2128 posts

Marcus: 365
Eberbachl: 268
Mike: 228
Noel Teelow: 224
James Park: 211
Paul Malynn: 180
Gareth: 56
Clever_guy: 48
Zoe: 17 (slacker!) :P

plus others

Last 3 months have seen 4297 posts

So half of our posts in the last 3 months have come in 4 weeks.
We should hit 10000 posts in mid November at this rate.

Good work everyone, you are doing an awesome job making this forum more than just a piece of software running on my server. Users and their contributions make forums great!

Marcus
08-10-2002, 11:44 AM
Archery Talk has had about 4900 posts in the last month, however they also have 1010 members, so we are doing half the traffic with one quarter the membership.
Their top poster would be ranked 6th on our board.
Their 10th poster has 238 (me! :) )
Our tenth has 132 (Robert)

We have 85 members who have never posted.
AT has 250 who have never posted

This is not here to say "we are better or in competition with AT", just an example of a company run board vs a non-company run. I would have included one with PSE but their's is having difficulties.

Just because I divide my day between the Forum, Shooting and reading about rocks!

Are you saying I have no life????

Marcus
08-10-2002, 12:04 PM
That's begs the question though, who does have a life?
If you work all day, you have no life
If you study all day, you have no life
If you do both of the above you have no life
If you do one of the above and spend the rest of your time doing a sport you love, you have no life

If you get drunk every night and spend 12 hours a day vomiting and sleeping it off, you have a life.

How does that that work?

Eberbachl
08-10-2002, 12:07 PM
Well if that's the way it goes, I'll have no life thanks

mike
08-10-2002, 11:12 PM
and with this post I join the 500 club!!!

Woo Hoo

what was that about no life???................. :P

hey Marcus, the forum has been going crazy for the last month, I wonder if there has been a lot of PM traffic as well (perhaps the lurkers are just sending PMs)

Zoe suggests that my new title be "Forum Numbers Man" after my ability to get the 5000th & 7000th post as well as get my 400th and 500th post by saying that this is my 400th and 500th post respectively.......

In the we hours our overseas friends tend to post so it ends up being a 24/7 kind of addiction. :D

I'm off to Coffs around lunchtime, should get there early evening 6 or 7 pm.

See you guys there

Which day do you predict for the 9000th post? How about the 10000th post?
I pick 27/10 for the 9000th, and 12/11 for the 10000th.
Perhaps Mike and I can make hay while the sun shines when all you lot are off shooting 3D - and we (probably Mike) can claim the 9000th.
(Of course when I say "while the sun shines" that will be in Melbourne, and at Sherbrooke for the State Field specifically, while it probably rains at Coffs).

Marcus
24-10-2002, 10:21 PM
Paul, if you drive as fast as you think you should have left in April. :P

Jim, good question.
I agree with the 9000, will take longer than it should have because this is such a busy weekend.
The 10000 post will come in around the 10th of Nov.

9000 28th of Oct
10000 10th of Nov

Yep, I think it is going to be a bit dead for the weekend.
I still think it will be 27/10 for the 9000th post (they will not be able to constrain themselves when they get back from Coffs).
It looks like the weather for the Victorian State Field Championships is going to be ugly - hopefully in Coffs they get a bit better.

Man this place is dead....

Mike's at work, I'm manning ('personing' ) the forum in his absence...he promised me it'd be exciting :( .

IT'S FRIDAY NIGHT FOR TRUBALLS SAKE!!!! Got nothing better to do than rectify my abismal posting tally....I mean I'm not even 30 (that is when life ends isn't it???) and this is my "night out" tonight :( (damn those 8:30 tournament starts)

What's so good about Coffs Harbour anyway....

Ooooh....now "vitamen"'s very dodgy...

attention to detail people :o

(I think I can make it to 100 posts tonight as I slide down the slippery slope of dyslexia [is that how it's spelt...sorry...spelled?])

James Park
25-10-2002, 05:57 PM
No, I think it must be abbyssmale (sorry, abbysunisex). (I am bored too).
No, upon considerable reflection, it should be "abbeysnewter".

James Park
25-10-2002, 06:13 PM
Zoe,
I think I have concluded that we must be the boring end of the forum - not a single provokative post since we have been logged on. It must be the 3D sect that stir the most. Personally, I don't really know what a 3D target looks like.

Zoe
25-10-2002, 06:18 PM
I think Marcus is to be congratulated for his community spirited nature - providing a 'safehouse' for the globally bored to congregate en masse (I believe a similar motivation was behind the construction of the Upwey train station).

Incidentally, it struck me today (I was bored at work too), that Mr. Howard must know nothing of ArcheryForum. If he realised the amount of sh*t (aka methane - incidentally 20 times more damaging than CO2 - cos you really wanted to know that) that is spouted on this forum, along with the copious amounts of hot air produced - then he would have no hesitation in ratifying the Kyoto protocol....
I can see the strategy paper now:

ACTION: limit greenhouse gas emissions to 108% of current emissions by 2010
MEASURE: close down "archery forum"
RESULT: better environment, better relationship with EEU and Pacific Rim nations, and about 280 more people congregating around Upwey train station.

....still bored

James Park
25-10-2002, 06:22 PM
Zoe,
I have an X10, your length, size 700. Want to see if it works with your bow? (You probably need a size 900, but I don't have one of those).

Zoe
25-10-2002, 06:24 PM
putting on my anti-disleckssya hat for a minute: "provokative" looks rather dodgy jim, unless you're of Russian extraction in which case you're excused...(although good to see you didn't say "manly, i dont really know what a 3d target really looks like" [BTW i wonder if you have to shoot them with special blue and red glasses]).

James Park
25-10-2002, 06:27 PM
Actually, I should have said "pernewterly" I suppose (although I am sure it should be spelt some other way.
I think there must be some way to use red and blue glasses to both put off the opposition and to guage distances for 3D archery (whatever that is).

Zoe
25-10-2002, 06:45 PM
I think 3D archey may be like "Clayton's" hunting (if you remember the ad camaign) - sorta like 'the stuff you kill when you're not killin' stuff'...don't know...could be wrong....

btw you've thrown me with that pernewterly comment...no doubt it'll dawn on me at 3:00am

James Park
25-10-2002, 06:47 PM
"pernewterly" as distinct from the gender-specific "personly". I suppose you could use "perdaughterly"?
Come to think of it, I should be allowed to use "personly".

Zoe
25-10-2002, 07:05 PM
if Paul wasn't busy with Coffs duties he'd probably write something tasteless like "persprogly"...

I, on the other hand, would never resort to that level...

Anyway Jim, what is with "personly" (as opposed to 'personally'). Have you been lurking on those North American forums again??? what way does your toilet flush dude?

I have an X10, your length, size 700. Want to see if it works with your bow?

yes, it'd be interesting to see how it group tunes.....

sorry, bored again, seroiusly do you mean an X10 as in one?...mind you i could use the exercise...

James Park
25-10-2002, 07:55 PM
I have "an" X10, as in "one of" at your length. Actually, I have about 20 X10's size 700 of various lengths, mostly quite a bit longer than your length. Most of them have a shaft length of 25.5", with a small number at around 27".
"The" X10 will probably group test really well. However, shooting a FITA with it would be rather a challenge.

Bruce
25-10-2002, 08:57 PM
You two must be very very bored .

You should try 3 D sometime Jim , I find it ok but very hard to judge distance on after looking at flat paper targets most of the time it usually takes me around half a round to really start picking them , the first half I usually jag a few more by good luck than good management .

Bruce :)

Speaking of blinding, GET SOME SUN Marcus! Geeze the glare coming off your pasty white face in a photo on the web is making me squint...I didn't think cadavers were that pasty in Oz...

...Unless you are a Goth, I mean if you are a Goth then I guess I have to compliment you on your use of pancake makeup...

I don't have the vanity to be a goth, but I agree with their adversion to sunlight, and black is good, yes. You should see the dog-collers my wife use to wear. mmmm pant bark

Geez, depressing isn't it?If only I got paid per post I'ld be a wealthy man.

Just as proof I do nothing else:

Archery Forum: 2501 posts, 1st
PSE Forum: 643 posts 13th (slipping a bit, have not posted as much recently)
Archery-Talk: 386 posts, 10th
Easton Archery: 1 post (I think, maybe 2)

That's a combined 3531 posts.

Ummm, no one tell my wife please!

Yep, too busy getting sloshed and watching the cricket methinks....

I admit to doing exactly that on boxing day...

In fact, were in not for the fact that I have to work at Safeway (woolworths, in their bottleshop no less) in the evenings I would probably be in a lot worse shape!!!!

Marcus
16-01-2003, 03:17 PM
I'll give you that kind of power for $200 a month. Maybe $180 a month if you pay a year up front.

Power costs.
