I am about to start tuning a new recurve. Plan to follow the article Tuning for Tens which I found online. In the article, a matchstick is placed in the plunger initially and the bow is sighted in. This is done with the plunger depth set so the arrow is dead centre of the bow. The matchstick is then replaced with the spring and the plunger is set so the front of the shaft is just left of the string when viewed from behind.

The bow is then shot and any left-right adjustments are done by adjusting the pressure of the plunger button.

My question is this: Does that mean that after initally setting the sights with a stiff plunger button, the sights are never adjusted left-right?

Thanks is advance for your help

I have been reading about "tuning for tens" in the Bow International magazine (U.K published). In it the author talks about shooting though paper. This is with a recurve using a solid button and the arrow set on the centre line. Would the horizontal tear be more to do with the quality of the release than the spine of the arrow?

Thanks, Mark

You also need to remember that your bowhand position will have a big effect on this.

Thanks for your answer James
Based on your comments would you say that this tuning method is the best way to go. If not what would you suggest for tuning a recurve

Having first ensured that your bowhand position is satisfactory, I think the "match stick in the pressure button" method is the best.
