View Full Version : What is a decent price for a 2 day Comp?

We have had many debates on this site over the costs of tournaments etc. Some clubs feel that $35 for a 2 day is fine, others feel it is too expensive. How much do people expect to pay for a 2 day paper target shoot?

This is NOT meant to be a flame on Sherbrooke, however as a guage to see what expectations are.

Problem lies with the way you have worded the poll Marcus -- you ask what would you EXPECT to pay -- I have always paid $35 so that is what I would expect to pay. I would LIKE to pay $10, and I think that MAYBE wecould get prices down to $25 - $30.

If a tournament was $40 then I would have a real problem but at this stage I have been conditioned by AV clubs to expect a fee of $35!!!

Good luck to any clubs that can maintain cheaper fees. Assuming I can go and its a good tournament (a good round, not a silly round like a Perth or a York), then I'll definitely support a push for cheaper tournaments. I notice that the Moorabbin Sheild this year is $16 for a one day comp, PLUS $6 IF YOU WANT LUNCH, which I will not do because sandwiches are cheaper!

Well everyone would say $10 if it was like. I guess Expect is what you think is not unreasonable or expensive. IE, what makes you glance at the price and sign the form.
I don't know how you can be conditioned to pay it, it's the most expensive comp on the calendar.

(I've just edited this post because I made atypo that looks like I was being a sarcastic prick)

Marcus , whilst I understand that I shoot a different style of field archery to you guys our comps cost $20 per snr and $40 for a family for a 2 day shoot (juniors and cubs cheaper)

Just recently we held a state 3d in wich archers got to shoot 84 targets for the same cost as a normal two day shoot . we only give out medals at these shoots but I think that it was good value for money consideringthe cost of the targets for replacement .

It depends on the tournament ie for a state or national championship or fita star event I would expect to pay more than for a club shoot eg city of Sydney (only one day but it is adouble Canberra). Just shot a field tournament (2 days 24T each day) and it was $27 for the weekend which I thought was well priced.

Bruce, if there are any marked field rounds coming up in the ABA calendar that I could shoot without having to join ABA then I wouldn't mind shooting a few of them. I'm not really interested in 3D or animal faces (or hunting for that matter which is why I am not an ABA member), just normal targets. I dont have a car so I cant get to an ABA club and so it would be pointless for me to join one (and any way, I can only practice at one place at one time anyway!!)

At $20 for a 2 day shoot its good value and good competition practise for FITA field tournaments like the State, National and World Championships (now there's looking ahead for you!!) This leads to Luke's hobby horse -- the whole 2 association thing. Imagine how strong our team would be if the two associations somehow at least coordinated the tournament side of things so that we could all shoot both!! I staggers me that we can't at least work this bit out. There is a lack of good tournaments to shoot as it is and they are too expensive -- if there was a couple of comps a month (as there would be if ABA, AV and 3DAAA coordinated their efforts) it would also potentially reduce costs.

The powers that be in the respective organisations don't have to like each other, but it would be nice if they could compare calendars so that people like Marcus who shoot a lot of fita stuff doesn't miss out on the AV state champs because of a 3D shoot.

Any way, no offence is intended here, i know that the people in charge do their best given the voluntary nature of it and I wouldn't presume to tell them how to run the organisation unless I was playing an active part in that organisation, which I don't have time to do at the moment (I actually have a workload at uni at the moment would you believe!!)

Marcus: all the field tournaments I have shot have cost this much (with the exception of Geelongs "Warralong Field Tournament" in 2001 which was I think $20 for one day!). I am very impressed with the cheapness that you guys and the ABA clubs come up with and given my renewed interest in field since doing reasonably well at the Silver Cup (funny that, who would have thought, eh!! ) I want to shoot more of them.

BRING ON THE DIAMOND PILE (field style!!!) how cheap can it go!!!
