OK this is one some may be familiar with.
An archer is on their final shot, they just need to hit the target to win. While at full draw they are bumped by a competitor. The archer is pushed off target and misses. Giving the win to the archer doing the bumping.
Should he be allowed to reshoot the arrow?
Should the archer who did the bumping be disqualified?

Not sure of the rules Marcus, but my initial thought is , if witnessed, another arrow is shot, if not witnessed, tough :D

I think that you would have to be allowed to re-shoot the arrow, due to outside interference.
I don't know about disqualifying the bumper, I think that you would have to prove it was deliberate.
Just my guess!

No reshoot. Win goes to the other guy. And your team captain can put in a written protest. Which if it happened in Singapore, it will not be entertain even if you got video evidence to prove such an incident happened. :fist:

Again, there is the rule that no arrow may be reshot.
However the bumping incident is serious, and could constitute
a safety issue, and possibly 'touching another archers equipment'. But under the FITA rules I could not find any penalties
for interference of one archer by another! Is there one?
This rule is clear (target archery, there are equivalent for other styles)
8.8.1.8 An athlete proved to have knowingly broken any rules or regulations may be declared ineligible to participate in the competition. The athlete will be eliminated and will lose any position he or she may have gained.
But noone seems to have imagined one archer tackling another, so there isn't a rule or regulation to have broken! Any experienced judges have a suggestion? Proving intent must be difficult too.

ok here we go, AA rule book
9.5.14 An archer shall not be disturbed or approached during shooting except in an emergency.
9.5.17 Any remark or action made that may cause annoyance or confusion to an archer or may detract from his/her concentration is unsportsmanlike and is not allowed. The Judge, DOS or Field Assistant shall first caution the offender, and, if the offence is repeated, may direct him/her to withdraw from the event.
But they would only be given a warning for a first offence, but I would believe in a situation like this ,if a witness saw they would be dq'd

Disqualifying the offender would not help the archer though. :-?

if the archer had something to gain, eg a gold medal it would be the same as a professional foul and they should be punished.
then the archer would have lost nothing

More from the Rule Book
7.18.1 2) Appeals against the conduct of the shooting or the conduct of a competitor shall be lodged in writing with the Judges or tournament committee the same day.
I cannot find anything that offers redress for the archer who has been sinned against. Just like life, the crim has his day in court, the lawyer spins a sob story, stuff the victim.
The rules are so loose and rely on gentlemanly behaviour. There is no definition or rule that describes shooting, beyond several references to drawing the bow (with or without and arrow) and "bow operation". This does not mention the placement of an arrow on the string, so you could chuck an arrow at the target and have it count.
Now to go and download the Judges manual to see what is NOT in the rule book.

One should really give it some serious thought if one should make such accusations. Think back carefully, incidents described above has yet happened in Singapore in any major competitions, and your accusations put all the local judges in bad light, even though your intention was not to direct the blame at all of them.
I sincerely urge you to withdraw your accusations immediately. You are not doing your local archery community any justice.
