With all states starting to look at their state team selections, what would encourage you to try for a state team? Examples might be:
State Uniform
The prestige
chance to be part of a teams event
If you currently are not interested in being on the team, what would you think would encourage you to try? Also what puts you off trying for the team at the moment?

I always try out for the state team as it is the highest State (not personal) goal archers can go for.
If you are selected for the team then you would have to be one of the 4 best shooters in the state - something to aim for. :D

apart from mens and womens compound open what divisions have enough entries to bother with team events
Most states can generally cobble together some recurvers.

Don’t know about those first two, but definitely agree with the third. Archery is usually so horribly individualistic, and the way most clubs/states structure their tournaments there are relatively few opportunities to be part of a team.
Being on the State Team also means taking a genuine interest in other disciplines (eg. all of a sudden you’re completely absorbed in what the recurvers are doing – ok maybe it’s a genuine self interest, but it’s an appreciation nonetheless!); and it is a much nicer feeling to win a team medal than an individual one. (As a spectator…which you often are even while shooting…far more interesting to watch teams. Bit boring when you’re thinking “I think I’d probably like to see A win, but it would also be good if B, C, D, E, or F won”. With teams, particularly State ones, you pick your team (or two) and barrack like mad – though it seems most of us must do this internally  . I’d love to see more emphasis on teams and a great deal more good-natured parochialism)
Have only done the State Team thing once, but I wiah everyone would go for it! –and if not, and you happen to turn up to the Nationals, make up whatever team you can for the Teams Matchplay.

Juggs,
You miss the point. Getting on the State team, does not mean shooting in a team event. It means officially shooting for your State, in their uniform, which might also mean competing in a team shoot.
Personally, I would like to have the ability to be confident in even going to a trial. :(

I agree with Zoe - being part of the team event.
I don't need any more State uniforms (have more than I know what to do with, but I do like shooting in the current AV one, white with long sleeves).

For me it's all about the honour and pride of having my State select me to represent it. In addition, you get the team spirit thing, getting to compete in the teams Matchplay as NSW (or should have been), and so on. Uniform's, fast cars, fast women (or men  ), and money are just added bonuses.

in nsw our state team is good exept that you have to go to sertain shoots to be elegible. Some of the country people cant make it to alot of these shoots so it makes it hard for them. also archers in the state team were supposed to get some of our entry fee back which hasnt happened and probibaly wont happen.
