It's really funny that I'm answering these questions.....

Hehehehe.

Well, if your spine is too weak for the poundage you shoot, it will flex too much and have all sort of funny wobble/spin effects, and may even damage the arrow and bow if it is way to light for the bow.

If the spine is too stiff, it will also have funny effects, but not as bad.

I think Jim Park has a book that will be out soon regarding arrow tuning that would answer this quite well, otherwise look for a webpage by Joe Tapley (I think is his name?) as he has a ton of physics on archery.

On recurve your arrows fly sideways.. :D :D :D

On compound with release it's not so sensitive but off course too much spine will make the arrow flex way too much and fly very poor. :bday:

Yeah, but unfortunately for me, the book ain't out yet. :(

But how stiff is too stiff? And how weak is too weak?

It depends off course on your draw weight and length.

Think most arrow providers have a table dependent on these factors which gives you recommended spine.

Try www.eastonarchery.com :bday:

For bows that are not centre shot (recurve, longbow) the spine also has an effect on left/right aim. Stiff arrows will fly left and weak ones right (for a right handed archer) requiring further adjustment to sights or aiming points. Spine is not as critical for compound, except perhaps when shooting with fingers?
