Robert,

I use the Easton lightspeeds for 3D and field and with great results. They are a well priced, reliable shaft that you shouldn't have any problems with.
Eberbachl also uses them for 3D and field and I am pretty sure that Alan Weston uses them. although i'm not sure what arrow he used over in Croatia recently.

Lightspeeds would make an excellent choice for 3D/ABA archery IMO.

robert, agree with cams opinion good cheap arrow for 3d field.
tolerances and components are good.

get a whole dozen made for 150 bucks.

a larger diameter arrow is preferable for its line cutting ability, such as cxls or fatboys.

unfortunatly with large diameter shafts you have a thinner wall to keep them light.

my preference now after shooting a few 3ds is for cxls. considering we spend 300+ for target shafts i dont see the issue with spending that on a shaft for 3d

Yes I find that when you miss a target with a Lightspeed it usually breaks into two pieces.

However a CXL, Gold TIP or Fatboy tend to break into many bits, and thus you have the added benefit that your arrow is more biodegradable as many little bits gets absorbed by the undergrowth much better then two large pieces.

And Lordy knows if we don't look after the environment we will have no field courses to shoot on

The Lightspeed is a heap better arrow than the Excel. The Excel doesn't have good tolerences and don't group quite as well, but then it's a little cheaper too.
The Lightspeeds are a little lighter than the FatBoys, and as Juggs mentioned, tougher thanks to a thicker wall.
Looking forward to trying the FatBoys myself. The CXL's are a gorgeous arrow. Watched Bryce Lee shoot 8 straight perfect X targets in FITA field last year using them, however he broke 3 arrows that weekend as well. Not sure if that would stop me shooting them, but it is worth be aware of. (They all broke down at the point. Could also be target related, but I broke none of my 3D Selects. Since then I have busted 4 3D Selects, which are a similar construction to the Lightspeeds, so they all break)

It's a tough call on which way to go. If you need the speed then go the Lightspeeds. If you can afford a little extra weight try the FatBoys or CXLs.

Actually if you want speed go with the LightSpeeds or the CXL 150's. Both these arrows can have 90-100 grain points and make a 300 grain arrow.

The Fatboys are the Problem, they are very heavy for the 500 spine and you would have to put 60 grain points in them to make a 300 gr arrow.

Or you can do what I'm doing for 3D. Go 70# and make up 350 grain arrows. That means you can use a CXL250/350 Lightspeed 400 or Fatboy 500/400 all with a decent amount of weight in the point.

Also the CXL 150's are a bit brittle on Hard targets....eg Stramit!

Robert , I shoot 340 lightspeed's with 90 gn points for IFAA and just tried my 340 fat boys out for ABA this weekend , got at least 16 bonus points over the weekend .

I think the lightspeeds are a great arrow and I would use them for everything , especially with the 90 gn point .

At my draw length and weight I can afford the extra weight of the fat boys for the line cutting bonus points .
