This question is on another forum ,so I thought I might ask it here and get your thoughts!
Do you use one eye or two to aim? :o

ONe. I'm aware that commonly held idea of best practise is to use 2, but I can't shoot straight if I try to.

Why is 2 supposed to be an improvement (and no '2 eyes are better than 1' replies...)

I use 2 to when I start drawing, then close i as i get to my anchor point.
don't know why, always did like that.

interesting question

I use two. Two is better because you can see the mofo trying to sneak up on your blind side. ;)

I always shoot with the two eyes open, this help keep the clarity and focus seems a little out at first but if you concentrate on the target you should have no probs but if the problem of blurry ness or double vision still occurs you may have a problem with the possition of your peepsight

give it a try at close range at first untill you get used to it find the image and slowly progress

I can't do it I get the double vision thing . Will stick with one eye, if it's the dom. eye doing the work I cant see any advantage to using two :D

Coach, a year or so ago Marcus suggested I open both my eyes when aiming. Was really off-putting at first (almost fell over the first time), but quickly adapted over a couple of ends. Have found it much more relaxing (a good thing), and helps my consciousness of head placement. Most importantly though I find it helps with overall balance (which makes physiological sense really). However, I do find that I tend to get the double-vision thing happening towards the very end of a FITA - so I have to blink a few times.
Might be more or less difficult depending on level of eye dominance, but I'd suggest giving it a real try.

I use both eyes open , until I get to a target on the field course I real want to focus hard on , then for some reason I close my non dominant eye , I seem to concentrate harder that way , but do find it more relaxing to shoot both eyes open

I just assumed we all had two eyes. :-?

Although I noticed one of your friends in your avitar, has only one. :D

Generally two eyes open. If it becomes difficult in adverse lighting conditions due to glare or similar, I sometimes shoot with one eye closed

I shoot two eyes open, but cover one with the aid of a Feathervision blind. I do this because I am left eye dominant, and suffer from double vision when aiming.

I found when shooting RH it was difficult to keep both eyes open. I had the same problem of Left eye dominance.
The reason I was given for keeping both eyes open is that it helps stabilise your bow arm. :halfrobot:

As a Left eye dominant compounder I can't shoot with both eyes open without left & right shots due to distorted & double vision. :o
Oddly enough my shocking target Panic problem seems to disappear with both eyes open.
I have investigated this & there are plenty of top compound archers throughout the world shooting with one eye open
Also some outstanding Recurvers.
No point allowing this to stress us, we must make the most of what we are born with.
Some of the reasons I have seen why both eyes open is preferable are:-
Maintenance of body balance
Less tension in face due to closure of one eye
Maximum light achieved during aiming
Greater ability to stabilise
:-?

For what it's worth my Dad is left eye dominatnt and shoots recurve both eyes open, he simply trained himself to use the correct eye. Won 3 National titles doing this (in Open division of all things)

That must have really taken some effort with a Recurve, Marcus :o
I assume a compound would be a easier to master with cross dominant eye shooting due to the peep sight picture

I think the key was to make sure you keep your sting aligned with eth riser or sight, you can don't see the string in the sight picture then you are using the wrong eye.

I think it's best if you keep at least one eye open. :D

Although looking at some of my scores, I must have had both eyes closed half the time. :-?
