View Full Version : India's archers - how good are they?

I've noticed at the last several international tournaments that India have had a few decent archers shooting. And they seem to shoot all right as well - a 9th place from one of the men in Turkey, an 8th and 14th from two of the women. Are they an up-and-coming team much the way Australia was 5 years ago?

Also just realised the women's team placed 4th and would have placed 3rd if the top 3 scores were added in the rankings - not everyone from the team.

A couple of years ago India was looking for an archery coach, I imagine if they have been putting money into the sport this is a reason for their success.

Watching the Indian team this week: they are doing very well. Their techniques are excellent and their scores high.

Dredging up an old thread...
It's nice to see Banerjee (the female version) qualified first in Turkey and is assured a first or second in the matchplay. They have three men through to the top 32 in the matchplay.
On another note, Prasad - who shot so well at the Olympics - has been knocked out in the first round of matchplay and ranked quite low.
Even still, I think they are an up-and-coming force.

Yup, they've got a Korean in as coach, and have even gained a world record recently:

A lot of Asian countries are looking at South Korea's success and wanting a bit of that. I reckon Malaysia will break through soon, too.

But the FITA website still shows the 70m record as being held by Valerie Fabre with a score of 349 ... :-?

It wasn't updated for Mary Zorn's 351, so Jhanu Hansda shouldn't hold her breath. Poor old FITA.

the reason why asian countries are gng for this sport is because of the physical disadvantage they face in contact sports. being an asian myself, i know how hard it is to play basketball with an aussie...
I reckon the country that will do really really well is taiwan. just look at their results in the last olympic.

I don't know why everyone is surprised at how good the Indians are at archery. They've been at it for a long time. Shooting from horse back is really difficult. Haven't you seen those Western movies :D

So long as claims have been made on the correct forms, have had the required documentation to support them, and have been submitted within the allowed time frame, I've not had a problem with any of the 50+ World Record claims I've made to FITA on behalf of Australian archers since 2000. :-?

Does the fact Terry Reilly has you on his SPAM list has anything to do with you getting them through!

I was there with the French looking at the level of the archery and i was surprised not to see the australian team there, it was a shame considering how good the recurve archers are. is there a reason ?
