View Full Version : Something wrong
Hi I am new to these forums and relativly new to Archery. I recently bought a Micro Adrenaline bow at Dicks Sporting Goods and the people there helped me a good bit. They tought me how to use a peep sight, (new) a release, (new) and a sight (new). At the store I shot about 25 arrows and had a 3 inch group. It was almost perfect. The next day I went outside and started shooting. My arrows always went down and to the left no matter what I did to my form. I didn't change anything on the bow.
Anything you can tell me that will get my shots back into that almost prefect range will be great.

Tha strings are proabaly stretching! You will need to shoot a couple of hundred arrows to get them to "settle" in. Once that is done move your sight pins in the direction the arrows are going till you get them to hit the point of aim. There is a lot to tuning a compound, too much for me to type here so I suggest you get a book on the subject :D Hope I've helped a little

The usual cause of down-and-to-the-left arrows (for a right-handed archer) is under-drawing. Are you sure you're pulling as far back as you were in the shop?
It's also possible that the string is brushing against clothing. Even a slight brush causes a surprisingly large reduction in cast, which again will cause a down-and-to-the-left problem.
While drawing the string as far as I was in the shop helped a bit, my shots are still off. Maybe it is the way I am shooting? How far back should the String go with a release? I am using a trigger release and don't quite remember where to put it on my face.

Are you shooting the same distance you were in the shop? Have you tried moving the sight at all to get the arrows to go in the gold? Otherwise, if you are getting the string touching your clothes, that can drop them low and left.

All I can suggest is trial and error. Try loosing when the string is in the "valley" (i.e. when the bow is at maximum let-off). Also try pulling past the "valley", and loosing when the cams are starting to press against the back-stops. If you keep getting problems, then your best recourse would be to go back to the shop and ask for a quick refresher.
But like Coach says, there's a lot involved in a compound bow. A book like "Precision Archery" by Ruis and Stevenson would be a good investment.
I found out why. It was because my anchor point was too high. I lowered it a bit until the string touched my nose. Now I'm shooting great! Thanks guys.

Good to hear you got things sorted out!
Now it's all down to practice, practice, practice! :D
