Are they wood/glass or carbon?....

Have a look at them when the bow is unstrung, as if the limb is dying in some way, it is usually also noticeable when unstrung, as it will be warped or something compared to the good limb.....

How can you tell if its wood glass vs wood carbon?

the colour of the laminate layers.
Generally wood/glass will have a lighter clearish layers between the outside laminate and wood, while the carbon tend to dark, perhaps even blackish layer lines.

could this be a prolem with his string? Perhaps a few turns inadvertantly came out, or it stretched a little? Would this cause similar results?

No, then both limbs would be out, not just one.

Are the limbs under warranty?

I just hope they break before the warranty runs out. :-?

If they are foam carbon, I would take it back under warrenty straight away (if there is still warrenty) and get them checked.
It's not sounding good at all.... perhaps the foam core has collapsed and compressed so that it's no longer assisting the carbon return to it's initial state....
