Is there a rule dictating the maximum height the arrow nock can be in relation to the shooters sighting eye. I seem to recall from a conversation with a barebow shooter some reference to the nock having to be below the eye socket. Can somebody please clarify this for me. :D

AA Rules 8.4.2 and 8.5.2 say that the serving on the string must not end within the archer's vision at the full draw position.

I had a quick look through the other rules but didn't notice a reference to the nock.

Seem to remember this as an ABA rule in the interest off safety..
they were woried a nock might break on release and injure your
eye..Strangely the only eye damage I have ever heard off was a
broken nock ricocheting off the bow into an archers eye, could happen
to anybody..

String walking requires sighting down the arrow and for closer shots the nock is usually quite high. Only the ABA with its idiosyncracies seem to deem this globally used technique as 'dangerous' String walking can be an extremely accurate form of shooting.

But, there is nothing stopping you from using a non brass clip on metal nocking point that won't blow up into your face....

The ABA rulebook says 'nocking indicator' though - no mention of a brass nocking point, so as far as the ABA is concerned a high anchor point is a no-no whether you use a brass nockset, a tie on nock or imagination to nock your arrow.
As my mum always said - "Keep that up and you'll have an eye out". :o

That is quite correct - it is an ABA rule

Yes it is an ABA rule but, I think they quoting common sense here . You really shouldn't have something that close to your eye when you are shooting

Why not? We do it with peep sights. ;)

Someone at the indoor nationals was able to sight down the arrow to shoot barebow. Not sure how she did it but was DAMN good! Her FITA 18 score was around 540 when she had finished. Possibly she had a lower nocking point to get more lift when she shot...?

Think that was one of the Howells family.

High nocking point combined with low reference will do it, and not move things too far from the centre of the string.
