Hey does anyone know if archery is offered at the Australian university games in Perth this year. Because i was asked to compete in Athletics but i would much rather shoot then do athletics.

Any help would be great!

Hi Jordana,

There is no archery at the AUS Games/Championships in Perth.

Currently in the AUS system, there is only AUS East Archery Championships, which was hosted by Sydney Uni this year, as found in the other threads under the university board of this forum.

Next year there will be once again another AUS East Archery championships, hopefully hosted by either or both University of NSW and Sydney University, but we are planning to make it an open invitational to all AUS universities. This was discussed with Gavin MacPherson from AU Sport this year, and we hope that if enough non AUS East uni archers express their interest and actually travel to sydney next year and compete, we can boost our claims to also host a AUS Games Archery in perhaps 2006 or 2007.

Until then, our only hope for a uni games for archery is still restricted to the AUS Easts.

The regulations for a AUS Games/Championships requires competitors from 3 zones with 3 universities of each zone.

Thus, East is already filled with USyd, UNSW, Newcastle, but we would require another 6 universities participating before it stands a chance of becoming an AUS event.
