What hapens in ABA if there is a tie Like 4 400 rounds shot by 2 or more shooters? It must be an issue.

Here is a quote from my ABA rule book...

"In the event of a tie in scores for any award, the tie will be broken by a count back in the first instance on the number of 1A's (20's) and if the tie is still not broken then a count back on the number of 1B's (18's), and if the tie is still not broken then a count back on the number of 1C's (16's), and if the tie is still not broken the a count back on the number of 2A's (14's), and so on through the diminishing system until the score is broken. If after a count back the tie is not broken, a shoot off will be made at a group 3 target using one arrow sudden death scoring until the tie is broken"...AUSTRALIAN BOWHUNTERS ASSOCIATION INCORPORATED NATIONAL BOWHUNTING CODES AND RULES FOR SHOOTS 1998, Page 48

As you can see, my rule book is 1998 edition, but I think this rule is still current.

The problem is of course that the rule has obviously been designed assuming that people don't shoot perfect rounds. The idea of a sudden death shoot off on a group three target (16m-24m) for two freestyle shooters who have just shot perfect field rounds is insane. Unless one of them really choked, you'd be there for an awful long time before one of them missed :D.

Gee 20m on a group 3. That's a huge target!
It must not happen that often if it hasn't come up yet. Sean must not have must competition out here. I'm sure Leigh and Marcel don't shoot enough ABA to get really good at the distance thing.
Do you shoot in on a range or on the course? And do you know the actual distance?
We should put up the distance and animal images online, that would be cool.

yeah, that would be good...we have the animal images on A4 down at the club...easy to scan.

I don't think Sean has had all that much competition in that area. Plenty of freestyle shooters have tried, but I don't know of a tie occuring before. I'm pretty sure the shoot off would normally occur on the practice range, with the distance known. Anyway, 16-24m would put me pretty close to the 20 at the 18m sight setting on that target, so on group three the distance is really not that much of a big deal.

yeah what they need is a tied event that has a shootoff that just keeps going and going, would be quite funny really. Group 3 would be 8 ring size at 18m huh?

yeah, that would be funny, but I s'pose someone would eventually miss;)

Has any one ever shot 4 400 point rounds in ABA?

I have seen 1 perfect round but not 4.

Yep, I'm sure a dude called Shaun Pratt has done it.

That's not to say no-one else has, just that I don't know of it.

From what I have heard even Shain has not shot a 1200 at a comp. Would be interested to know.

If the distances were marked the perfect round would be more common.
But being unmarked it is not just a matter of putting your pin on the A zone, and shooting with good form.

I found that in many of the 3Ds' I go to scores change depending on group members. eg: in Brockville a man who was a lousy shot managed to shoot a near perfect round, it just so happend that his 6 year old son was his only other group member  how ironic

I know for a fact that at the State ABA Titles just held at our club Shaun shot :-

398
400
400
398

Now I tell you guys that was pretty damn awesome, unfortunately or fortunately (depends how you look at it) nobody was close.

Yep, hats off to Shaun that's great scoring indeed. I've alwsay liked and respected Shaun, he's a hell of a good shot, and a real nice guy to boot!

The kind of guy that will even go out of his way to help his competition!

Lilydale Bowmen have one of Shaun's scorecards framed and hanging on the wall. I'm pretty sure it was from their club championships one year, and it's either an 800 (two consecutive perfect 400's) or a 1600 (two days of same  ). Anyway, not 100% sure, but if he hasn't, he's come bloody close.

:bday:

You are dead right Luke, he has helped many archers , he like to have some competition, keeps him on his toes he says, but always the gentleman and very hard to shoot with in a group as well, even at full draw the bastard keeps telling his jokes and making you laugh, well he put me off a few times but hey I had a great time...
