View Full Version : 2002 Victorian State Field Championships
OK, this this the next one on the calendar. Two day FITA marked field event, 26-27 October at Sherbrooke Archers.
Who's going?
Competition is hotting up with the return of the World Field Team members (most of them from Victoria). Should be a very interesting comp. I will certainly be there, and if Clint shoots I want to limit any loss to less than 10 bloody points this time! :x
So, I'll start this one early. Who's going to win? Who's going to place?
If he shoots its hard to go past Clint. Perhaps more interesting will be the womens compound. Sunday's target results had a backlog of shooters for 2nd and 3rd place. Those shooters are all capable of winning a field event.
If Rod Miller shoots well, it will be neccesary to point him in the direction of the bow press in order to put him off his game (has been known to work before)!
In Recurve, Campbell Hodgson (if he shoots it) has to be the pick as he seems to win most of the field stuff. Kate Hammond might make a return to female recurve (having just shot the world masters) which will make it difficult for Christine Jordan!
Looking forward to it!
Oh, and if you want to whinge about the entry fees, do it in another thread. We are all over that one!! And any way, Geelong Archers will be running it next year so whinge to them!! :P

Well I'm greatly disappointed that I won't be shooting it. :( I'ld really like to, however I'll be living it up at the 3DAAA Nationals spending 4 days picking on Mathews gear!!!
Erika should be going.
My picks.
Clint won't be there (a hunch)
I'll put my pick on Mike to take it out, home field advantage.
Jim, Tori and Bryce battling it out for the next few spots.
Rachael will win womens compound, unless Kellie shoots who will give her a good run, but it really could be between about 6 of them. Gee womens compound is shaping up well! Lets get a strong team to the Nationals.
Cambell for recurve.
Womens recurve, gee, I dunno.
U14 Sten will win, if the weather is nice watch for possible Aussie record from him, a faulty release aid (now replaced) kept him getting it last time.

Both mens and ladies compound will be interesting.
Bryce has won the last three and will be difficult to beat.
I will of course be trying to shoot well (and my Xcellerator is going well). I am still trying to debate which arrows to use (choice between X10, ACE and Safari's).
If Zoe has good sight settings she could give Rachael a good run (as she did at Moorabbin).

Well I dont expect I will bother the top ten, but I do hope to stay ahead of Zoe

Colin
If it hellps I added an extra peg to 4 of the targets setup down the course. There are some real tough ones there now. Go down and get some practise in. 8)

Looking forward to shooting my second AV event, I am also sure like colin that I wont have any impact on the top 20 , but hey I am going to enjoy myself :D
I vote that JAMES PARK will win the mens compound division.
Women's compound - If they both compete, I reckon it will be neck and neck between Kellie Weston and Rachael Pye - the winner to shoot a new ladies state field record.
As for myself, I hope to beat both my own personal best, but more importantly...Colin!! (you have abested me many times since the 2000 indoor, but victory shall be mine this time Colin...mine I tell you....)
(Jim, if my sight settings aren't pintpoint, I shall complain to the relevant manufacturer :) )

Who won between Zoe and Colin at Moorabbin?
I am reliably informed that Colin won that particular dual.

Discovered tonight at Moorabbin that both Rod Miller and I successfully scored Marcel minus 41 for the last end of the Moorabbin Shield. Instead of getting a score of 1131, we both gave him 1031 (and he never noticed until Peter Cave pointed it out tonight). Working on the announced principle that the lowest score submitted would be accepted, the results sheet shows him with 1031. Sounded pretty fair to me!!

We had a big working bee at Sherbrooke yesterday to get the course into excellent shape for next weekend. Robert tells us that a number of the targets will be quite different to any we have shot so far (and Mike and I did note Wayne hacking a new path between a tightly packed group of trees at about target 20). Mike and I took down all the old target faces yesterday, so those of us with a home ground advantage will have to confine ourselves to the target range for the next week. Leigh Cornish is not able to shoot (horse riding up near Weipa for the week, and only gets back next Saturday), and I think Clint is not shooting, so the rest of us have a chance.

Those who have shot over 350 for a FITA Field round and who I think will be attending the State Field this weekend:
Bryce Lee 358
James Park 358
Tori Watson 353?
Michael Robinson 354?
Rod Miller 352
- that is: enough for an interesting competition.
Leigh Cornish and Marcel Verstegan are not competing.

Good luck everyone. I would've like to have shot this one. :(
I'm expecting big scores from the Men's compound section!

Yep, good luck to everyone shooting the state field this weekend!
....oh ****, now I'm really running late....gotta go to Marcus' house now to get the plane....
If we see you at Sherbrooke, it means we didn't make it!!!!!

Only results I know for day 1:
Bryce 351
Mike 351
Tori 348
Jim 345
Rod 319 (including a 4 on the wrong target).
Conditions: would like to say it was a hurricane, but it was not. A moderate breeze, perhaps. The scores were pretty horrible. I managed to easily get 15 on both 20M bugseye targets (with 3X's) and to miss the easy targets (dropped points on both 35M targets and at the 10M target).
Predictably, Colin and I are even after Day 1
(I think we both had rounds we'd really rather forget)
Women (i could be wrong on some of these):
Rachael Pye 333(??)
Marilyn Taylor 324
Erika Annear 313 (??). This was Erika's first ever field shoot with a compound
Lisa Cusack 310

Yes, but what did Zoe score?
I finished on 314.
Had a number of sensational single-figure ends (and can't even say I shot the wrong target  ). But I did clear the 20m bugs (first time! :bday: ), plus good company so i enjoyed myself immensly :D .
also got to meet the very nice Steve B from the forum
(btw any competitors who happen to read this tonight, remember to wind your clock forward an hour this evening - not back an hour as Mike advised Tori :evilbat: )
...sorry, misspelt immensly..."I enjoyed myself imandrogynously"

Thank you for the compliment Zoe, but I think you might have met the wrong guy or maybe I was just being nice :evilbat:
But it was good to catch up and meet yourself and Mike, BTW did you get any flowers tonight or are they all gone from your garden ?????

Is that Mike from this forum?? Mike well done. Does that mean you are 2002 State Field Champ? :bday: :bday: Well done.
Zoe congratulations to you also. Well done. :bday:
I know that they don't read this forum, but a big thanks to Ray Morgan and Jarrad Alston (who I shot with all weekend) for great support. They never once mentioned scores or anything and really made it easy for me to just keep shooting without worrying about what else was going on.
On another note, that was a bloody sensational score from Campbell Hodgson (Gents recurve). Beat most of the compounders.
Well done to Rachael Pye, who yet again outclassed her competition to win easily.
Hey, Just had another look at the scores...
Daniel Amos shot really well...came 5th outright as a junior. That's pretty impressive....
:o :o :o :o :o
We all better watch out...

I shot with Daniel over the weekend, I was hopping to stay close to him over the weekend, but a brain fart with my second arrow of the day set the seen for my weekend.
Daniel Shot Very well, some very unlucky 4's would of cost him 3rd place.
Rod Miller & Daniel had a can of Coke rideing on the weekend, they thought they were even at the end, so decided to have a shoot off using my bow. Rods sighting arrow was a 4 @ 3 oclock just out of the 5. His next 3 were all 5s. Daniels Sighting arrow was a 2 @ 2 oclock, His next 3 were all Xs

Congratulations to all especially Daniel Amos .
Daniel was a great help to me at the world masters games and is a credit to his club and the sport .
Any task that I asked Daniel to complete were carried out with out question . He is a real gentlemen and was popular with all the competitors especially Sam Antonio from new mexico.
Well done Daniel and thanks once again

Photos (on CD) from the weekend shoot (Vic State Field 2002 Oct. 26th/27th) will be available from Sherbrooke Archers shortly. I will also play with putting most of them them into a slide show and stored as an MPEG for transfer onto a VideoCD (to play on any compatible DVD player).
