Just got confirmation from QLD re the Nationals next year.

QLD received permission from AA to run next year's National Field as a double Marked as a trial to see if it attracts more people to participate

It will be a FITA Marked plus a Marked Australian Round
(similar to the old FITA round with 28 targets and 4 arrows per target - it's a blend of the old and the new).

Whats everyone's thoughts on this one..........
:D :D

Sounds OK, it could be shooting Coke cans off the back of camels, it's for the National title.

Would have preferred Marked FITA and Marked IFAA though.

Sounds like its going to be a hotly contested title then -- takes one skill requirement away.

I really hope to be able to go to the Nats next year...have not been able to in the past.

...it sounds like it is very close to a FITA marked field, and an IFAA marked field....

What exactly is the difference between a Marked Aussie round and an IFAA round, both being 28 x 4...might as well throw in some variety and shoot the IFAA

I may be wrong luke but I think it was taken from the old american nfaa round which is almost identical to the ifaa round, the reason they moved away from it was europes aversion to anything american even though they saved their ass on more than one occasion.

Not according to the Germans.

Luke, you know those black and white faces we have tons of in our indoor range, the ones with 3 rings? They are the faces used. Plus its in metres.

I think an IFAA crossover is a good idea. Introduces people to something other thn fita field. plus IFAA is alot more fun to shoot !

Well, Paul, aren't you just the teacher's pet now!

I've shot 56 so there!!!! :P

No, I haven't, I lie. I haven't shot any, you are much better than me Paul...

Whats the problem, isn't it just 4 arrows at FITA field faces but with 28 targets?

So what is the Australian Round:- are the faces the same as the FITA field, same sequence etc on the faces??

28 targets with 4 arrows like it used to be way back or is it like the IFAA round ( Which I am looking forward to next week at the Masters)

My first IFAA, should be interesting....

:D :D

Marcus

not really, similar though
these are the targets

5, 4, 3 scoring, no X ring.

I feel so old, I remember when they replaced this with the gray scale FITA field.

The australian round is almost identical to IFAA. Black and white targets

4 arrows per target 5,4,3 scoring. 28 targets

You guys remember don't you?????????? it's what I shot for FITA field when I started.

FITA changed it around 1989 I think.

Names, names Mike....your just jealous cause I've got the Tossa and you don't. :D

Quote some Star Trek and you'll get back on top!

You lot are not old enough!!
I can remember those same faces back in 1961. We were only allowed to shoot barebow then (and I scored 54 for my first round). Back then they scored: 5, 5, 3.

This makes me glad I have gone back to a bright orange circle on my scope!

It would be awful to shoot this with a black dot...

"make it so number 1"

Marcus

Sorry Paul, that deserves Lameass of the Week.

Mike, when the dot is gone, that's when you shoot, or just aim at the 4.

As a true Kitchen Bitch you would go for Garak I would have thought...

Marcus

Sorry Paul, but despite your impending blindness I remember when Mike had a Star Trek logo for his Avatar, so he keeps the title.

NOW GET IN THE KITCHEN AND BAKE ME A PIR!!!!!

Phew, though we might have had to shoot those grey field faces again.

They put my right off field, they were impossible to sight on when under shade. So the Australian round is the old field round.

:D :D

I got to like em, but then pain is good!

Annoying thing too is that those faces were drawn up by the Australian FITA delegate at the airport as all countries were asked to submit a face for a new target design. He drew it up thinking it would get killed by serious designs. It ended up being the only one!!!

Yep those grey faces sucked, tiny 5 ring from memory. Yet I shot some bloody good scores on them.....scores(groups) that I haven't matched in field to date

GAREK no way..........I prefer TOPAL these days, did I mention that i've got all of season 1 of enterprise on CD

As someone who came into the sport after FITA went to the yellow/black faces, I hear two main horror stories:

1) Inner 10 FITA scoring

2) The evil 'grey faces'

People talk about these two eras of FITA archery like it was some Vietnam Vet thing...

Was it really that bad...

2Dogs
30-09-2002, 10:14 PM
Yep it was.

If you cracked 1300 on the inner 10, you went and got drunk, because in all likelyhood you would never do it again.

And in field you went from shooting 4 arrows into challenging sizes 5 ring, to a 5 ring the size of a lifesaver..........depressing......just like the colours of the faces.

There's something to be said for colours and moods, when I see that HUGE yellow spot on a black field face I feel "Happy  " and think how the hell can I miss that.

Topal...hmmm...yummy 8)

Hey Paul, me and Marcus missed plenty of those HUGE yellow spots just fine yesterday :D

You guys need to check your rule books. According to the curreent AA rulebook, the national round is now shot on standard fita field faces. It is basically a 4 arrow fita field round with a few changes. The are a few walkups added as well as a 15m 4 spot. The wondefull thing about it is there is no 20m bugs. The only bugs shot is a 12, 10, 8, 6m walkup.

Blacktown Archers has been shooting a national round now for the last couple of years as part of our tri-field tournamnet. We shoot 12 fita, 14 national, and 10 3D targets. It is a lot of fun for a change.

As for the nationals, I would much prefer to shoot the marked / unmarked fita round. However, for the great good of the sport, I can see the value in running the national field as a double marked.

Thats a shame Jason, I was looking forward to the idea of shooting a different target face...oh well, I guess I will have to just get my act together and finally shoot an IFAA round (is DVA running one this year?)

so basically the Australian field round is just a long FITA Field round. How boring. They should have kept the unmarked bit.

We've got the pegs for IFAA permanantly set out Mike, if you'd like to come and shoot it, just let us know and we can make sure it's set up...not a tourney I know, but you can come and shoot the round with us...

Marcus

I agree with Mike, that's a shame.
Yep we are running an IFAA this year. :scatter: :beer_drink: :iamwithstupid:
