View Full Version : Printing sight tapes

Bill Williams pointed out to me tonight that he had found that his printer was set to a default scale of 97%. This meant that when he printed a sight marking tape it came out slightly the wrong size (the sight gap was not the same as the sight gap he had entered as input data). So: if you find the scale comes out slightly wrong, check your printer setting.
I will have a think about whether I can set this automatically from within the program, but until then please be careful.

James, any chance the sight tape could be printed out on pdf format ?

Gareth,
I have thought about that, but I do not know enough about PDF.

Is there any way to increase the length of the sight tape? I can only get 80m on it and 90m would be where the bow speed is printed.

Pete,
That is because the program has calculated that at 90M your arrow would probably hit the sight. If that is not true I could change it.

It doesnt hit the sight as i shot 90m with full sight extension and shot an end of 51 :o

I emphasise the 'an' as it was the only one

Here's a way I use to make printed sight strips a bit more handling and weather proof.

After printing the strips on a laser printer, I spray the *back* of the paper with some satin estapol. It impregnates the paper, without affecting the laser printing (this may not work for injet prints though).

Once dry you can cut them out and you have a toughened plasticised strips that you can glue on and won't go soggy in the rain. They also have less problems with normal handling wear and tear.

how do you make sight tapes on the computer to be accurate and long lasting?

I print my sight tapes out using a laser printer rather than an inkjet style printer.

I print them on A4 self adhesive sheets, then cut out the scale and stick it to the sight after carefully cleaning the sight with Acetone...

(be careful with this, as Acetone is a strong solvent, and may take the finish off some sights!)

...to ensure maximum adhesion. I use Acetone on my Bernadini sight, and it's fine - but if in doubt, maybe try Isopropyl Alcohol, or Methylated Spirits. Always try in an inconspicuous area first :D When the sight tape is stuck on the sight, I then stick a layer of clear sticky tape over it, ensuring good overlap around all edges. This stops rain and moisture getting in, and my sight tapes easily last until I have to print another one due to equipment changes.

Cheers!

I print them directly onto a sticky label (you can use the print format menu to position it correctly).

You can print them to PDF format if you want. You will need the full version of Adobe Acrobat, and you set your default printer to Adobe Distiller.

When you print it then creates the tape in Acrobat. You simply print it out from there.

Don't know why you would bother.

what alot of us here in south texas ,( real hot and humid conditions ) do is once the sight tape has been printed . we use lamination adhesive tape laminate both sides of sight tape , the use a small dab of clear silicone , like window calk etc.. and dab it on to the back of the sight tape and stick it on the sight ,, works really great . wont hurt the sight bar finish , and is fairly easy to clean off and replace later .

Jim, when I print my sight tapes I get the numerals but can hardly see the sight marks themselves. I've tried fiddling with the printer settings and so far nothing works. Test page prints fine. Can you suggest anything?

Aarleks,
Never had that one before!
It is all printed from one routine, so should all be either ok or all wrong.
Do any of the lines print?
If all else fails, you could send me your data and I will print some and take them to brisbane with me.

Might have to be an option Jim. Thanks.

I'll try a few more things. Will let you know.

Jim,
In regards to Pete's problem with the legth of the sight-tape, did you find a way to print one that extends further down. I may now have a similar problem.

Aarleks,
Can you send me the input data and I will check.

Jim,
Used the sight tape today for my Target settings (X10's) and field settings(Navigators) and they were both perfect.

Thank you :D

to create it to PDF just install Jaws PDF creator it acts as a printer imulate and creates a PDF of the data then open the PDF and Print
