View Full Version : what the !@^%& is going on with me ?
I'd like to open this topic up to everyone in order that I may get some answers. Now the last 3-4 3-d shoots I've had there is just 1 bad 10 arrow round which has killed me. Seems every time I shoot it goes, 78 then 45 then 87. how can you go from 70's and 80's to a 40 or 50 something  It's driving me nuts, more so !!!!! I can't work out whats going on. Best I can figure is it's just some sort of mental block where I go into it for a bit then snap out of it. Worst thing is I'm starting to obsess over it so that just makes things worse  I'm taking 6-12 months off shooting anyhow so I'm going to have a think about how I approach each shoot and see if I can't rebuild my shot routine to keep things as simple and straight foward as I can so I don't keep getting that killer round mixed into my shooting  Any ideas on where to start ?

I think it's just your Distance judgement.
Get a couple of targets wrong and it messes your confidence up. Then you start shooting crap shots.
As I don't shoot hardly any 3D, my distance estimation is very Ad Hoc. And doesn't teh old Confidence bubble burst when you stuff up a distance.
During your time off practice, your estimation.

Exactly what 2dogs said! Once you miss that first one that is all that is on your mind each time you step up to the peg. Then you sart "second guessing" you first range estimation,,, just like I did at the Nats! (this is one of my pet hates about my shooting as well)
Go in at each target and stick to your first guess and drill that ten ring! :D
I was once told the brain doesnt lie ,, it's you that does! :x

I get similar slumps in the middle of sessions. What seems to be happening is that I get a bad shot and look for something external to blame it on -- then if that external thing happens again, I start focussing on it.
For example, if someone is nattering while I'm shooting and I get a bad shot, I subconciously blame the nattering. And then I start listening for noises and let EVERY noise bother me!
Now I just need to work out how to pull out of the slump earlier. I'll watch this thread with interest.

I think this is a mental thing, I tend to beat up on myself after I make a bad shot , which in turn upsets my focus until that 10 is shot.
I know that when I can put a bad shot behind me,and take the next shot as if it was the first shot of the day,my scores will go up.
When you buy a Mathews bow, you get a cassette on the mental game , with it, could be helpfull

Did it my self .... thought I was good
started off with 2 perfects on medium diff targets and the next
(35 m 30 degree upp I thought( I missed completely and shot over the back of it)
made me very uncertain bout distance judgement the rest of the round
and shoot very average the rest.....
bad feeling..... forgot to thrust me instincts i guess..... 8)

I think you need to find a rythm and technigue that works for you. Let your brain do the distance calculation, you just focus on your stance-aim-draw-release or whatever.
Even hunting, I go into a set "kata"and it works for me. I always follow the same pattern and timings/breathings...and it gives me a consistent kill rate.
Like that joker selling fitness videos a few years ago used to "Its Technique!"(what an irritating twatt he was) :robot:
