Well, the qualifying scores for consideration means it's currently out of reach of anyone at our university club... :o :P
Men's Compound - 1300
Women's Compound - 1290 (only a 10 point difference?!)
Men's Recurve - 1240
Women's Recurve - 1200

I'm surprised at the 10 point difference for the compound, but 40 points difference for the recurve! What's so bad about the same score for men and women? The women do have a rather large advantage as far as the target ranges go!!!

It's a Worlds games guys, if you don't shoot those scores don't expect to go. Sorry.

That's the whole point of having those high qualifiers.
But hey, I got 3 years to work my butt off to get that kind of score :D

first year at uni I got given a 2 weeks notice about this event. Could have shot the 1240, if I had had a chance to. But that is irrelevent, didn't have the money to go anyway

marcus is right those scores are not exactly high for a world event there much lower than the regular worlds

Yeah, but since they are for uni games level, it's not exactly low either, as there may be people who only started archery at uni, as not every place may have people who shoot as juniors before uni age..
I mean, we have about 100 people join our club each year as complete beginners, and if you look at Rob Talbot, his progression initially was phenomenal, so a 1240 requirement would have been a top notch score for a uni person if they had only been shooting for 3 years...

Yep, but then it's an ELITE competition and not designed for people who started archery at Uni. It's designed towards top class athletes who are also uni students.

Well, it's a minimum qualifier.
So even if it's an elite competition, it still leaves open the door for wildcard entrants who might have some talent, but haven't shot those scores yet.
Considering that the entries close several months before the actual event, it leaves many opportunties.

Remember, at this event you would be representing Australia, the scores should be at a world class standard.
If you have not shot 1240 now, chances are you won't in 3 months time. You may improve, but it's rare that you will.
You gotta set a standard, if no one meets that standard then we don't send a team.

Well, I went from a 904 FITA in November to a 1031 in February in competition, and I wasn't training uber hard except over christmas where I shot my 1101 PB FITA... So that's 100 points roughly in 3 months with training twice a week only...
Which means a 1240 could shoot up to a 1300 if they worked uber hard...
It's not impossible, but probably improbable.
I'm not disagreeing that it is an elite event, but there probably is some reason why they chose 1240 as their minimum score.... :-?

Here, for gents recurve, it's 5*1259, 4*1269, or 3*1279 (IIRC), with the 70m stuff being 5*629, 4*634, or 3*639.
Can't see me going given that lot! :(

Why all the weird numbers?

It converts nicely to handicap levels, as far as the governing body here care.
Silly reason, really, but about as logical as anything else around here.

Ah well, I might have made it with a bow :-?
My string broke last week, so will not be shooting that score now.
