Once again, the clubs at Sydney University spruik to obtain the majority of their members for the year.

We are no different.

This year, we are located in stall 189, on the Tennis court side of the Main Lawns, infront of the Main Quad.

We are offering membership to all university students at Usyd, and memberships to the general public.

This year, we are also running a raffle for a complete set of 1816 Jazz arrows (kindly donated by Easton), and we are accepting pre-orders for the "new" club uniforms (same ones we had last year).

So, if you're around, have nothing better to do, then come on down to say hello, and join up. Or donate your money to us for a semi-worthy cause. :D

We'll be there on Wednesday and Thursday only. Friday is for non sporting clubs at Manning Bar :x

Well, we've had 1 person from UTS come and inquire about joining up with us because she discovered UTS doesn't have an archery club. :D
We've had several former archers come and inquire and some join, so things are looking pretty good.

The rain today really killed off the crowds so we only signed on 35 new members, compared to 76 new members last year on the first day.

Anthony, we will be in our stall from 9am to 4pm on Thursday.
So pretty much anytime you can drop by.

Friday, we will not be there as the sports stalls will be finished as everything else is moved down to the Manning Union building.

As for advertising, it's not particularly wasted since it's free, and it's continual exposure for the existance of archery at the university level :P

StevenB, recruiting Elite archers will probably never happen since we don't even have a coach. They would come, look, laugh at us, and then leave. So we don't really have such high expectations anyways

Elite archers generally bring their own coach or don't have one, so you don't need to worry about that, all you need to have is the right facilities and an agreeable attitude to their use for their purposes. SO go for it if you can (not sure who you'd get though)

Who's the girl from UTS? ... :D

I haven't got a car atm and just looked up the route to sinney uni via pub*ic transport, sorry, I can't make it tomoz. I think I will have to stick to shooting at home (cos it looks like a bit of a travel even from uts).

Would the semi worth cause have to do with supplying the club with beer? Cos I think that should be one of your top priorities.

Looking at all of this, I think I have become cynical in my old age. I can't remember the last time I noticed O week beyond the fact that there was suddenly a line to get coffee and I saw some silly bint last week wearing six inch heels (must have been a 1st year).

But if we had an archery club maybe I would have noticed more. We worked it out we can get 70m, with the compound, down the corridor of my department 8) . Ceiling's too low for recurve.

Ceiling's too low for recurve. In much the same way, I realised I can get 50m inside the foyer of my building or 45m if I want to shoot in the hallway of the offices... Oh the things I could do if I wanted to stay at work until 3am to shoot (and even then, the security would probably arrest me!)

We now have 63 members in our club after the two days of recruitment.
We also gave out just over 150 of our club brochures, with about 60% of those who didn't join up interested but unsure of their timetables and work commitments.

It was a bit dissapointing in terms of sheer numbers, but on the positive side, with lower numbers it means we can focus more attention on the members and hope to retain a higher number for a longer period of time.

The weather really hampered all the clubs, and it was a pretty "dead" kind of day today, so many of the smaller clubs packed up and left early since the crowds were very low.

The only clubs that really managed to pull memberships were the mainstreams and those with gimmicks (like blond bimbos in miniskirts and white tops giving away snowcones with membership).

But I guess we'll have to see how things pan out.

Anthony,

Her name is Jo.
She's malaysian, and owns a Matrix.
She's also from Dubbo.

That's all I know, since she hasn't filled in our paperwork yet as she needs to clear up membership with the university sports body as UTS sports association has no coverage for her at our club for insurance.

cool cool 8)

What sort of steps would I have to go through if I decided to have the odd shot at USyd? eg. what's Jo got to do?

Can you shoot whenever you decide to pull a target out?

Don,

Just a point here on insurance after a previous post of yours. While the Sinny Uni might have their requirements to comply with insurance, your club is affiliated with ASNSW and AA, and the AA policy covers, as far as I am aware, any legitimate activity of the RGB, a member club and members of affiliated clubs.

Does not that then cover your activities outside of the Sinny Uni rules? :-? And how does membership of your club, of a person from another Uni, affect this? :-?

Are you aware that the AA policy could be extended to cover any special provisions required for Public Liability coverage for Sinny Uni? :-?

Just some late night thoughts.

Brian

It was about seeing three from the last few posts out of context.

:D

Anywho...Erika, the fact that a particular individual likes archery gives them immunity to being labelled all bad :D

How the hell is the elite these days anyway? You're taking good care of her right?

Don, what days do you shoot during the week?

Is it true, that for continuing ANSW members, they must pay the full $86 membership, and don't have the pro rata choice???

From what I understand of the insurance situation (which is what happened to the Rifle Club many years ago also) is we have to be covered by Sydney Uni Sport, regardless of if we have insurance from anyone else.

This requirement actually is very important for us as a club as it is also part of our club income. It's just that Sydney Uni undergraduates pay compulsory fees, and most of them never have to encounter joining Sydney Uni Sport being a problem.

They are also very picky about insurance because we are on their facilities and their equipment (which they technically own as we are a subsiduary club).
It's usually not a major issue as it's never actually deterred anyone who was interested from joining the club.

Anthony,
The steps are:
Visit Sydney Uni Sport offices
Decide on what type of membership they have (Annual $144, Restricted Associate $90. The difference is that with Restricted Associate, you can only join one sports club, with annual, you can join multiple)
Pay that membership
Visit our club
Pay our membership
Come to our shooting sessions
Shoot.

We only train at set times, so you can't pull out targets and shoot when you like.

John,
We shoot Tuesdays and Fridays from 2pm to 5pm. Weather permitting.
If you want to be re-registered with AA/ANSW, then as a member of our club you will be subsidies for that membership.
Last year, we affiliated 12 members, and they only paid $20 each our of the $86 for the full year.
However, if you don't wish to be AA/ANSW, then as a full member of our club you are still able to shoot, just not in AA/ANSW events.

bad is a matter of perspective :D ... given shared insanity, neither will find the other all bad :D

Flehrad, so considering I am an ASNSW member, a member at northern and only want to join/ associate with your club, it would cost me $90? $90+$20? or a flat $20?

Flehrad
09-03-2005, 11:20 AM
Since you are ANSW, there is two options.

Pay $2/visit as a visting shooter from a ANSW club

Or

Pay $90 (Sydney Uni Sport) then our club fee ($8/year + $1/visit or $15/semester).

The $20 thing is for affiliation/re-affiliation.

If you chose to affiliate with us (say instead of with Northern), then you would pay the club $20, and the club pays the other $69 dollars or whatever is the going rate to renew your 12 month membership with ANSW. It's effectively a very generous subsidy for ANSW affiliation.
But what that means is at events, you would be shooting for Sydney Uni.

the elite is doing very well, hopefully we will get to a couple of shoots this year since she has a new bow

Whose the elite??....

Well, our first training session was pretty good yesterday.
We had about 25 newbies rock up, and we promptly ran out of gear...
But a lot of them stayed around and ended up sharing bows with other people to shoot, and by the end of the session, most people were quite happy with their shooting and hitting the target at 15m well.

4 of them have already ordered uniforms too, which looks promising for them to be regulars, and we had 11 more people sign up into the club also.

O-Week has come around again!

Stall 79 (not 78 as printed maps will probably say as we have swapped with another club).

Membership prices are $10/year +$1 range fee or $15/semester for undergraduates/SU Sport members.

We're running a fun little jellybean guess and a mixed lollies box weight guess this year.

Drop by or something.
