Jim

The last FITA I shot I ran out of time to get my sight settings.

I could only get 20m in the backyard and I had my chrono.

I tried to use accurate sights to get a sight setting so I could hit the target at 90m........but ran out of time.

I jumped onto Archers advantage and knowing the speed (well as accurate as my Chrono is?) and entered all the usual data and went to the calculate speed option.

Here I entered my 20 sight scale mark and entered a 70m scale mark. The program then calculated the speed.

I kept adjusting the 70 mark until the calc speed equaled myChrono speed. Thenprinted the Tape ..applied...and crossed my fingers.

At the FITA the next day I shot a high 7 at 90 and the rest of my 4 sights were 10's or 9's.

Not bad for an "Emergency"............wouldn't do it on Field.

Does Accurate Sights have the option to be able to do something like this?

Paul,
Yes, it does.
As long as you know the peep-sight and peep-arrow distances you can simply enter an arrow velocity (just type it into the "ft/sec" box). The program then calculates the sight gap to match that velocity. You can then line up the printed sight tape with one known sight setting (eg 20M) and the rest should be quite good. I did this recently when I changed my peep-sight distance, and the settings were very good.
I agree that for field it may not be accurate enough, but certainly ok for target.

Very interesting.. and Paul.. is there anything you don't have? :-)

I miss the point..can someone explain how it wouldn't be good enough for field..? Fo rmy mind 90mtrs FITA is the longest and hardest distance and where accuracy matters the most..?

not accurate enough.

Plus I've had 21years to collect my toys. :D ..and still going

The most accurate way would be to sight in your 20 and 70 ........or your 20 and 90 if you like (what ever your confident with) and go from there.

What I did was best guess.

And in field if you put one out of the 5 your going backwards in the field....................so you want to be as prepared as possible.

But.......having said that I know Perry Radcliffe (guy who wrote Archers Advantage) used this method quite a few times at big field shoots.

But in my mind it wouldn't be perfect

The reason I would use it for target but not field is:
For field at the serious end, one point means a lot. By typing in the arrow velocity and getting Accurate Sights to calculate the sight gap, you are getting the sight gap from another variable rather than directly, and there could be some error (for example the chronometer might be a few ft/sec out). It could be sufficient to lose points at the longer field targets, whereas if you use the sight gap directly you should be able to avoid this.
For target, a point or so is not so critical.
