we will have about 6 entries there but myself and Erika are not going this time. She's working on target and I'm working on some things. Will be at the State field though.
Shoot Well!! :D

Yep, I'm going to Sherbrooke this weekend :)
I'm looking forward to it...this will be the first FITA field round I've ever shot :D I've heard Sherbrooke's field course is really good. Everyone I've spoken to says it's a real pleasure to shoot.
Are you going Colin?

Yes I will be there. Last year I had only been shooting for about 6 weeks and finnished on the bottom. Hopping for a better result this time.

So what are people's thoughts and feelings about the Sherbrooke comp?

Apart from getting a bit wet, I had a good time. I could of shot better getting,298 on day one then 311 in day two. One thing that was not the best, after finishing shooting at 2:00 pm the presentation did not end til 4:30 pm, I think a bit too long. But this is the case a most shoots. Enjoyed Shooting with Luke & Ray. Bad luck about Rays Bow.

I thought the Sherbrooke comp was a very good shoot. It was my first FITA field round that I've shot and I enjoyed the round very much.
Sherbrooke's field course is a pleasure to shoot, the company was good, and the shoot was run very smoothly.
...but one thing is I think $35 for two days of shooting paper targets is a bit rich! ABA 2 day shoots which have 40 targets out minimum instead of 24 are only $17 for two days of shooting. I've got a tournament on every weekend this month and if other clubs adopt this expensive pose, it will make it difficlut for alot of people to attend all of the shoots that they want to. I can understand the added expense if clubs are supplying expensive targets such as 3D, but paper targets on permanent stramit butts really doesn't justify that sort of expense. Sure, stramit is expensive, but it lasts a hell of alot longer than 3D animals, and the trophies were nice, but they didn't award anything for classes, just overal divisional trophies, so come on, lets make this a bit more affordable. Clubs should certainly cover the costs of running a shoot, or even attempt to use the shoot as a bit of a fundraising effort, but when you pay $35 for two days, buy lunch on both days, and are asked to buy raffle tickets for a number of raffles, I think the club is getting more than their money's worth out of the archers!

I must say I tend to agree with you, even if it is my club :( . I think it's particularly hard for families shooting there, even if they are receiving a family discount. A number of people I talked to over the weekend said they were only shooting one day because they simply couldn't afford to shoot both days.
However, I've got to disagree with you about class trophies as a way of justifying the amount. The LAST thing we need are class presentations on top of everything else...we would have been there till midnight :rolleyes
Nevertheless, I thought the organisation was really good, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves :)

Thanks for your ideas Toxophilite.
I wasn't necessarily saying that they should have had class trophies, just that if they had chosen to then it may have helped explain the huge price-tag ;)
Seeing as though you're a member of Sherbrooke I sure would appreciate you maybe printing this thread and giving it to the guys in charge down there. After all...if they don't know there is an issue, they can't fix it can they :rolleyes.
Cheers,
:D:D:D
To give you an I dea, as a Sherbrooke member who spoke to the president about it the day before the shoot, the trophies that were given out cost about $1000!!! after you count target faces at about $5 each I think and the damage to strammit which costs the club thousands of dollars every year, it is actually quite expensive to put on a two day tournament.
there were 76 competitors, most of whom paid $35 but not all of them did and so the clubxs revenue would have been around the $2000 mark, more than half of which went to trophys to be given out and target faces. Without having seen teh figures I would say that Sherbrooke didn't make much money out of it at all. In fact, the sad thing is that in paying the $35 dollars, we were really just paying our way. Perhaps if they used cheap trophies next time???
I wish it were cheaper too, 'cause I find it prohibitive, its lucky that the Fita clubs don't have these comps every weekend else I would go broke!!!
